Hey Band Geek, This is off topic but did you see my note about the Texans Pep Band tryouts in the Texans forum??? os
Could Gwyneth Paltrow do anything to make herself look uglier?? The Oscar parties are being shown now on E!. Losts drunk actors to follow. os
You know, people who have survived the Holocaust are less emotional than Halle Berry was tonight. Her speech was so long, so incomprhensible, sooooo self-indulgent that even Sally Field said "damn, that's over the top." Good to see somebody lose it like that, though. Nothing contrived about her reaction, I'll say that for her. Pity she couldn't work up that kind of emotion to pull her SUV over when she hits somebody, but nevermind...
I would respond with fierce word but I'd probably get banned. People before her have went on and on with the thank yous. People before have "freaked" when they were hurried. Yes she has made mistakes before but everybody does, maybe not that big and ignorant, but NOBODY IS PERFECT! By the way, the name calling is a little juvenile, don't you think?
Word. Someone needs to get that girl a damn bra. Rene Zellwegger looked like her face was about to explode.
Yo Old School, I saw the thread about the Texans tryouts, unfortunately I haven't played a musical instrument in years, plus I don't think I'd have enough time to deal with practice/community functions/etc...
I thought it was pretty cool seeing some real, sincere emotion for a change. The only way that it could've been any better, would've been if she was butt naked. The girl is hot! She's not a bad actress either.
I don't know about 'strictly', but theres the saying (I heard this growing up, not my opinion) that if so much as one drop of your blood is in the "other" catagory, then you're not white. Besides...what does she look like? Thats what most go on.
So I made a mistake but I forgot all of you are super-human and don't do the same. Let's get off what I said and back to the title of the thread.
No, what you forgot is that we have long memories. And a search feature. Still waiting on that Jamal Crawford explosion any day now.
I understand her emotion. I understand her speech running long. Where she lost me was when she acknowledged that her speech was running long and said that it has been 74 years (a reference to the fact a black woman has never won a Best Actress award) and then THANKED HER LAWYERS. Unfortunately, her speech will probably become a joke similar to the Sally Field "you really like me" speech.
The reason she thanked her lawyers people is because they got her the part in "Monster's Ball" she stated that in her speech.
I just get tired of people harping on race, I am happy for her and that she won. However, I wonder what her Mom felt like when she was talking about being the first African American woman to ever win best Actress? I think some people should be more gracious, though I can understand why she felt this way. I think that instead of blaming the academy for not awarding an Oscar to an african american leading lady, they should look at WHY they were not awarded. Perhaps it was because there were VERY FEW african american ladies in LEAD roles, and whose fault is that? Not the academies, but the producers in Hollywood. I am happy that she won, she deserved it, but I get tired of the old...poor us speeches. DaDakota
Man, I justheard her speech on the radio and it sounded horrible. Almost fake. Of course I didn't see it on TV, and Ithink she's a great actor, but dang!
I like Halle Berry.....A LOT. She is beautiful, intelligent, and has been in some good movies. The fun bags are nice too.....go rent Swordfish if you have not seen them. However, that whole bit about "the door is now open..." was a bit, well, melodramatic. Other black actresses have won Academy awards. Yeah, so it wasn't for best actress. I just think the "door" she is talking about was not closed to begin with.
Ok, Halle went overboard a tad. So did Julia Roberts last year and Cuba Gooding Jr. and Jack Palance and Sally Field and Marlon Brandau (or his Native Amer...er...Hispanic friend)... It happens almost every year. It is the nature of awards shows. It was the night for African American breakouts - Whoopi Goldberg, Denzel, Halle, Sidney Poitier (by the way, has there EVER been a more eloquent or moving speech than the one he gave???) - so I give her a mulligan. HOOP-T: Fun bags? Really? Sounds like something you get at a Halloween carnival.
