It was a heated argument, but not as pressing as this one. It was about who cleans up after the pets the most. A nothing-something that was imposing on our respective lifestyles. I think I told her she was a "ranting fool" and was acting like a "spoiled brat who wouldn't clean up poop" and to stop using that "holier than thou" attitude with me. I have since argued that maybe I had said too much. That I was reading too much into her statement: "Grow up,it's just a little poop on the floor!". That maybe my retort was merely a strong but joking attempt to make a point. Oh well, the Christmas shoppers at Peir One Imports certainly enjoyed it. ------------------
I think that Heypee should be suspended for two weeks. That was completely irresponsible. I guess I should of expected it from you but damn! By the way, I'm referring to your providing a link to that painful Daddyoh thread. It hurt my eyes trying to read it the first time and when I saw it again i got a migraine. As far as the Hakeem thing goes, I don't think he was kidding. But who really cares. We all know that Rudy has a tendency to forget about certain players as the game goes on. If his statements will get him in the game in the 4th quarter then it was worth it. We've all seen how well he can play with the kids. He deserves to be getting more than 24 minutes/game. ------------------ "Stranger things have happened, but none stranger than this" - Commentator after a parachutist landed in the ring of a Holyfield fight

Anyone else wonder exactly how many different names HPee uses on this BBS (or this thread, to be more specific)? ------------------ When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. This restless craving in the souls of men spurs them to climb, and to seek the mountain view. -- Ella Wheeler Wilcox
alright you caught me. When popeye left I felt so bad that I started practicing his writing skills so I could give him back to the bbs. thus, oeilpere was born.
Jeff, what you fail to acknowledge is that as an admin, your posts absolutely carry much more weight than virtually any other poster, other than another admin. I think anytime an admin posts, virtually everyone assumes the admin has better resources to draw their conclusions from. As a journalism major, you surely know your style of writing conveys as much as the content. For example, quote by Jeff: "I've read a number of people commenting that Hakeem was laughing and others were cracking up when he made his comments about wanting the ball more. Some of you have suggested that it was really not that big a deal. Wrong. " It would be naive to think that writing style combined with the stature of being an admin doesn't carry extra weight and implication. Do you think there would have been the numerous replies to HeyPee's post to "stop, cut it out, it's going too far...etc." if he were replying to the exact same post from Lil Francis, Cat, myself, or virtually anyone else other than an admin. Whether you want to admit it or not, your posts carry a different implication from the rest of us. ------------------
Admin posts don't carry one single IOTA more weight then any other poster. Just treat them like any other, I don't always agree with them, but am not afraid to step up and argue a bit. This is a FREE bbs, and thank GOD, it is not degraded to the PC wave that is sweeping this GREAT nation. Jeff, you were not discussing coaching, roster moves, etc. You attempted to invalidate others' takes on the Hakeem interview. Furthermore, you seem to be saying that your take on the Hakeem interview is the ONLY valid take. You say since that you know journalism, reporters, the Rockets, cc.net your take in the only valid one. I don't like the idea of an admin starting a thread to say "Look, I'm right. Everyone else is wrong." Sure, you have the right do it. Post whatever you want. No problem. I just think you should use more discretion before posting a blanket invalidation of a number of other people.
An admin post, for better or worse, does carry more weight. They are respected for their work on the site and their higher "status" vis-a-vis members, and they are feared (by some) for their power to ban posters they don't agree with (admins don't do this - but they could). Further, Jeff is widely respected for the work he did saving the Rockets, and the fact that he seems to know a number of people connected with the organization as a result only heightens the impact of a thread started by him on a controversial matter. What I'm saying is, Jeff use your Jedi-mind powers for good! Strong are you in the ways of the force. ------------------ I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... Ok, ok. I edited my post to take out the definitives and superlatives. Better? I just don't see why everyone is so sensitive. I've been absolutely BLASTED on this board more than one time and through emails FAR MORE TIMES than that. Why is it that my "Admin" tag is so freaky to people? I don't treat anyone differently because they hold that title. I only treat people the way they treat me. That's it. I've met a few of you from this BBS and gotten to know many of you through your posts. Why anyone would think that I would EVER condecend to ANYONE is beyond me. Maybe I've spent too much time here. Maybe I'm used to getting my head ripped off if I serve up a post with no merit. Maybe I'm thick skinned. So, I retract everything I said - even the stuff that contradicts the other stuff. ------------------ Mmmmmmm. Sacrelicious.
Absolutely, and I have no "buts". Jeff, thanks for saying that. That is the way it should be. In fact, I base my entire posting experience on that. So, why'd you start a whole new thread about this? I hate it when daddyoh01 can say he is right. And that guy has been around a long time. He is not new. Jeff, at Spaghetti warehouse you told me you thought admins weren't allowed to take as many liberties, and you had to bite your tongue sometimes; I'm glad you are no longer worrying about that. I don't know what I meant about the Hangout vs Roster. Maybe it is because many, many of those threads are for the explicit purpose of debating and showing your personality. Now in fairness to everyone who thinks this dream interview is not a big deal (who you call "wrong"), tell us again what are the facts in your post! I see only educated opinion.
Jeff, I appreciate the gesture of retraction. I am actually happier you made a stance that you can be yourself and an admin, both. Even with conviction to recognize other valid opinions (from all including daddyoh01) and some humor about "low volume threads", I was wrong and stupid in my manner of responding, and wish I had an anecdote to tell you like oeilpere gave. So, I'll end with quoting him (when in doubt, quote oeilpere). [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited December 07, 2000).]
I always believe in (1) Observe others and listen to what they have to say. (2) Seperate facts from opionion/fiction. (3) Make your own judgement. Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice, shame on me.
hey: no problem. I got a little out of hand myself. As for facts, I guess I see it as a simple matter of consistency. If Jonathan Feigen writes something, you can be certain he doesn't do it without checking. If he did, the team would be SERIOUSLY pissed. In addition, no other news outlets would continue to run the story and discuss it in the case of talk radio. No one would follow up the story by asking Rudy T what he thought and Rudy certainly wouldn't respond if he thought it was a joke. I think it is fairly logical to draw some conclusions based on the actions we've seen in the media or am I missing something? By the way, I still believe what I said at the Warehouse of Spaghetti (mmmm, that sounds good!). I still bite my tongue more often than not. However, even I'll admit that it isn't just about being an Admin. It also has something to do with time or the lack of it to be more precise. Anyway, I'll keep posting my thoughts when I feel necessary. Ya' know, Clutch, Kagy, Keely and I are not sitting around in some basement plotting who will be the next to be squashed. I've only MET Brian once (although, that was like a holy experience considering it was Barkley's last game and all) and Clutch and I talk regularly but rarely about individual posters or the BBS. Most of our time is spent complaining about how we never learned how to dunk! ------------------ Mmmmmmm. Sacrelicious.
The only reason people should fear me is because I may eat some of their fries if they show up to Austin Rocketball III.
