What you have to understand about Hakeem was that he did what was >>needed<< ala Magic Johnson except from the center position. When the team needed the rebound he got the rebound...when the team needed the block he got the block. Dream was always out of position for offensive rebounds since he was usually the one shooting, especially since he was fading away...that said, he was the master of the defensive rebound...if people remember he used to pick it above the rim...Dream is bulkier and a quicker leaper than Deke and if the team really >>needed<< a rebound who do you think is going to get it.
I agree 100%. In Dream's last season with us the guy was a beast down the stretch. If it were not for him getting hurt that year we would have been a dark horse team with the ability to do some postseason damage... Take a look at his stats. Dreams game logs from his last year with us As far as Olajuwon not willing to be a role player I believe that to be false. Yes, Dream was a proud man and in his first few years refused to be a role player as was displayed with his lack of desire to play second fiddle to Sampson. However as early as 1996 Dream began to accept a lesser role with the team. This is not to say that he no longer demanded the ball but he was definitely willing to take fewer shots in order to incorporate Barkley into the offense. Eventually in his final season in the league Hakeem was a shell of his former self but when given minutes still had the ability to alter a game much like Robert Horry. If you look at his game logs for his Toronto season you will see when given minutes he produced. Dreams last season in the NBA If you compare his last few seasons with Mutumbo's you will see that Dream was still dominant in every category over Mt. Mutombo.
Hopefully Hakeem That's a fair call, Deke did have the advantage of being able to get in position for offensive rebounds, you make a good point- i just keep remembering that all star game when deke was just pulling down every rebound imaginable, which got larry brown moist and ended up trading to get him.
