Well, the principle of getting what you are worth is the same, even if the everyday effect isn't (regular joe vs. millionaire). Although it would be easy to continue arguing this ad nauseum, I don't want to bore everybody with a philosphical treatise on labor/capitalism.

You want action NOW, hey, I can't blame you. You want all the good FAs, plus our own FAs (including Hakeem), hey so do I. I just want people to stop the personal attacks on Hakeem's character. It isn't necessary and is bad form after what he's done for Houston. We haven't lost any FAs because of his negotiations so far, so people should stop the Chicken Little "we're gonna get screwed." And if he takes more money somewhere else, or goes for a ring somewhere else, I hope we'll all wish him a great future and be gracious and thankful for the divine bball we witnessed while he was here.

Yes, there is a difference between standard of living and quality of life. Both of these things(and pay rate) are involved in making a decision of where to work. My point being just because Chicago might offer 8 million does not necessarily mean Houston will have to match that.

I recognize Dream's right to persue what is in his best interest financially. However, money does factor more heavily to a person trying to meet the basic needs of food and shelter vs. someone trying to meet the comfort needs of maintaining 4 houses or 5.

I agree with you that some users of this bbs tend to assalt character a little too quickly for my tastes, but hey we're all just having fund discussing the Rockets.

As a fan, I also agreee with drpepper that the sooner Dream makes up his mind (as long as it is to stay with the Rockets), the happier I will be.

The Rockets have said Dream is the 1st priority. Whether they missed out on any FA's; you're right, we will probably never know (one way or the other). It has definitely limited our options to persue other FA's. Is it to the detriment of the team yet? I don't think so, but only time will tell.

Besides the whole minimum wage analogy was really just a good way to insult Dr Pepper about working for a grocery store, although I can't confirm his GED or his marriage to his FIRST cousin. [IMG]

Ms.HayesStreet, You are a moron beyond words. Do you usually go around making fun of people that work at grocery stores or were you tring to be some clever comedian. Either way you sound pretty pathetic in my thread. Anyway, where do you see me bashing Dream? If I was, I'd be making personal attacks at him the way you despeately try to do on me. I like Dream as much as the next Rocket fan, but his pouting and stalling seem to be getting on most Rocket fan's bad side. Fran B. wrote an intresting article in the paper today about it as well. In it he states Dream made 16.9 million last year and hoped 4.5 would be enough because the Rockets sounded pretty firm. I think even 5 with a 2 mill incentive was very reasonable. Why haven't you mentioned what he might be worth? Did you even read my post or just skim through it overweeningly and assume the rest? I never wrote I wanted to replace him, just offer him a little help to sign as well as in the paint. Noone said sign Nazr to a longer or more lucrative contract than Dream, just get him a little help. The only reason DRob got 10 mill was because he's younger and played in 80 games last season. And who's to say if someone is gonna be a washup non factor or not? For you to compare Jackson and Nazr to Kelvin is low. I wouldn't even do that to you! Next time you want to make a personal attack on me, don't make up some lame metaphor. Grow a sac and speak up.

I have a question about the Fair Market Value demand that Dream is supposedly making.

Is there any addendum to that demand/desire/wish or Fair Market Value is the only issue that Dream has on signing an NBA contract? For the sake of this discussion, we will define what Dream thinks as Fair Market Value to be 8 million or better per year.

All you have to do is speak your mind but you don't half to make comments towards others. I mean if I said Hakeem is just taking up time would you also say I married my first cousin. But hey none of my business so whatever. I love to watch the game and its just a fun sport to play. I mean most b-ball fans dream of being in the NBA and then you become a bench player on your High school team and your like....dang I suck...lol..But Hakeem has done a lot and if you wanna speak business well b-ball is a business. Its commercialism and entertainment. Don't you think maybe Hakeem has brought in enough to our orginazation through all his works and his charity in the community. Tickets don't sell to a bad team. The Dream made us a good one...But hey you know....Its a fair arguement to go the other way....and you can say whatever.....I just want to see what ppl post....aight thats bout it....

I have to disagree that the principle is exactly the same. What the market will bare is only a part of the equation when deciding a place of employment. Quality of life is also a deciding factor.

A person making $5/hr who gets a raise to $10/hr will probably see their living standard skyrocked. However, whether Dream makes 5 million or 10 million; his living standard will probably be the same. If he is making that 10 million in Chicago, his quality of life might actually go down. (Cold weather, away from friends, losing team)

Is what Dream doing wrong? I personally don't think so, but it is definitely not in the best interest of the team. The earlier he decides, the more options the Rockets have.

As far as tainting Dreams legend, he is/was an incredible gifted athlete who was paid very well for his services. I don't remember anything extremely altruistic he has done, so I don't see anything wrong suggesting he is not behaving that way now.

OK, "genius." First, you dredged up the allegation that Hakeem "lied to get into UH," which is certainly a personal attack on Hakeem. Second, yes, unfortunately I did read through your whole post, and your posts on the other Dream threads. Third, I did actually work in a grocery store (Randalls) when I first got to high school. You sound like some of the people I met there, so the analogy fit. The POINT of the analogy, which you apparently are too stupid to get, is that no one likes personal attacks (as your pissy attitude proves). EVEN IF Rockets "Fans" are getting anxious, that isn't a reason to slander Hakeem. I think you should keep your attacks on Hakeem related to professional issues - insinuating that he's a liar doesn't fit that standard. BTW: I'm not desperate to make fun of you, it would be much too tedious to cut your posts up sentence by sentence! Fourth, Nazr would most certainly want a longer deal than we'd be giving Hakeem. Why would he come here for a year or two contract? And my POINT remains unanswered - are either of these guys a PROVEN asset? The answer is No.

And finally, you seem to be very insecure about your penis size. You call me Mrs Hayestreet, and say "grow a sac," which shows your tendency to hide behind a macho persona, and to depend on patriarchal symbolism to put others down. I'm comfortable with my penis size, thank you. And I think women are neither weak, nor unintelligent, and I can make fun of you fairly easily without resorting to second grade gender bashing. I will try and write in short mono-syllabic words from now on so the little Dr. won't get confused. In comparison, my posts question your intellect, and your tact/class. Of the former you have little and the second, apparently, none.

    Have a nice day.

First of all, the supposed allegation of him lying when he entered college is common knowledge . I had a long discussion with his brother once and that was one of the things I asked him. Second, I did get your "in depth" analogy, some of the other posters apparently didn't so you can call them what you will. But I think I speak for all of us when I say it was really lame. Third, Dream is gonna need help in the paint so we probably will get some "unproven" help, being that all the "proven" players have already committed to other teams with it being so late in the time allowed. Dream is only gonna (if) sign a 2 year contract at the most so we'll have to address it sooner or later. I would rather have Nazr sign for 4.5 mill than Shandon. Who cares if it's for 4 or 5 years, I absolutely know we won't need Shandon for that long. Those who bashed Nazr will eat their words next season. And lastly, what is up with you calling out my penis? I called you Ms. because you don't have a sac to call me out personally, so why did you say women are weak or unintelligent? Are you tring to put words in my mouth again? I happen to think women are our blessings and I am comfortable with my penis, but don't expect me lower myself to that. You sound so desperate , especially when you say I have no CLASS when your babeling about your PENIS and thinking about mine! Of all things that you could have said, you've obviously shown us how you think. This is a Rockets forum, not some gay penis envy bbs. If a "Macho Persona" is what your looking for in this forum, you should be banned!
