is hakeem from louisiana? i mean damn! the voodoo he casts on some people is downright frightening! dude sucks. blows. stinks up the joint. just as all great warriors must...he needs to retire!
If you are trying to be a better poster then show some signs of improvement. If you write your statement like a normal person this is what it comes out to: This is what Hakeem gets for being an a**hole. 9 words... (Well is just a filler word, and from above multiple people have informed you that a**hole is one word, not two.) I think you owe everyone a "doller". Just put it in the tip-jar. I hate being like this, but don't pretend that you are trying to be a better poster, actually put some real effort into it. I know I'm not a great poster myself, and I don't have inside information most of the time, but I at least try to contribute something useful once in a while. On to my thoughts on this issue... I think we got a great deal from the Raptors, and I'm glad we are not going through this mess this season. Hakeem knew he only was going to play for one more year last year, but he wanted the get paid 17 million for one more season but the only way anyone would do it would be over three seasons. The Rockets knew the two year offer was really just going to be a one year deal, so there was no way they were willing to give him three years. This seems to be a pretty shameful way for Hakeem to walk out, though I've never thought of him as an angel. Hell, I bet most of us would be greedy enough to find a way to milk three years of pay out of one year of work if we could. Just take a look at the seven deadly sins thread in the hangout forum. (Maybe not, it looks like I am showing signs of wrath in this post after reading it) B
I dunnno, it seems like Dream sticking it to Toronto is very in line with the personality we've seen since the begginning...CRAAAAAAZY. Now there is a good chance his Hakeem logic is telling him to play basketball for as much money as he can get for as long as he can get it. He's probably got a pretty weird/stubborn reasoning behind it. Who are we to judge Dream? The way I see it is if Lenny Wilkens couldn't see by 98 that the Dream was finished, washed up, slow as molasses, and comepletely unable to fulfill the duty's of a center in almost every way then he's a terrible coach. The idea that Dream could still play was this myth that was ongoing. I remember Bill Walton talking about how Hakeem was still one of the, if not the best center in the game in 98. Blind. It's Torono's fault. They wern't paying attention. Dream is a little kooky and he can not play. He's been undersized, slow, and without jumping ability for years, all painted on a canvas of no offseason training...and he's kooky. These were not secrets. The Toronto Raptors are stupid.
Good points, Fro. The Raptors are indeed stupid as hell. And I think they have a Houston fetish, ever since that Stoudamire trade gone bad. They love us, like a sickly peverted way. Get out of here Raptors, stop looking at us like that. No more of our old players for your freaky pleasure -- no 'first rounder for the rights to Clyde Drexler and Kenny Smith,' no 'Eric Montross for Vernon Maxwell, Rodney McCray and a season's worth of unwashed practice gear.' Stop trying to get us alone and show us your MoPete. You perverts. Go away, get some help. Whiney Cannucks. Doesn't excuse Hakeem, though. CBFC
Freak, I understand your sentiment and your trying to stay positive. But that's not what human relationship is about. You show me 20 years of trustworthiness and then do one big gross thing to show that you are actually a cheater. That one gross thing puts doubt on all trustworthiness of the 20 good years. That's the point of CBFC, and I concur.
Yeah, that's a good point Easy - you said it better than me. It's like when someone does you wrong, they are accountable for it, even if they have plenty of credits to their name. Part of what I think Freak reacts to -- as do I -- is the Hakeem bashing that makes you think he's Kermit Washington or Joe Barry Carrol. But like you say, 'choosing' what to look at is tricky business -- the total package is the total package, and unfortunately, Hakeem's total package now includes an ugly couple of years. From "I wanna go to Miami" until now, it's tough to spin them any other way. But, people being so bitter about is somewhat of a testament to his accomplishments off the court -- people liked him as something more than a player, and they are disaapointed. People get cranky when their heroes screw up. In three years, people will have a more TheFreak-like take on a Hakeem. "Was he better than Bill Russel" type arguments, rather than "when should he have hung it up" arguments. CBFC
Some of you are ignoring the facts just to support your Hakeem-bashing arguments. Even in 2001, when Hakeem got the ball in the post, he was effective. It is awfully tough to score if you don't touch the ball. What did the Raptors expect him to do? Was he supposed to score points through telekinesis? Unlike most of you, I actually bothered to watch a Raptor game or two. I don't know how many times I saw Hakeem in good post position, calling for the ball, while Alvin Williams chose to shoot a long three over a double-team. Obviously he wasn't capable of playing 40 minutes, but why didn't he get the ball when he did play? Bad game-plan, and bad coaching.
Some of what you say is true ZRB, but you suffer from The Cat's unconditional Spur-loving illness, but it has instead manifested into the deadly unable-to-detach-from-Olajuwon's-scrotum-itis. Please seek medical attention immediately.
ZRB - Don't know if you read my original post but I made a computational error. Forget those stats and answer some questions: Olajuwon started 37 games to Clarke's 31. The big difference was that Clarke was available for a full 81 games. Clarke (and Jerome Williams) hit 49% from the field. Carter and Mo Pete are the Raptors and if they don't get shots and score to open up the defense it might not matter if Wilt in his prime were in the post. The new NBA zone allows defenses to sag making post entry passes more difficult...especially to someome less mobile. Now, you tell, me...if a guy is only available for 61 games, starts 37, averages 22.6 mpg...how is he under utilized? Further... Raptors FGA/min Mo Pete --- .386 Keon Clarke --- .355 Alvin Williams --- .332 Antonio Davis --- .323 Olajuwon --- .303 I don't see alot of difference. How many more games are in the tank in a season? How minutes per game can Olajuwon play? The same Olajuwon who doctors won't clear to play 5 months after the 2001-02 season.
You are right. Instead of Ripping the Rockets off, He's ripping the Raptors off. He's done the city a great favor by collecting the money we should've paid him back then, now with the Rockets. That's brilliant. Hakeem Rocks.
