    Pass... [IMG]

Here is the real irony. How many people here are still pissed that we traded Moses Malone to the 76er's? How many of us here think it was sacriledge that Elvin Hayes (another UH alum) didn't finish his career in Houston?

I understand that Hakeem led us to two championships and spent his entire career in Houston, but, as a very wise man once said, "This too shall pass."

All us Rockets fans, in ten years (probably not even in 2 years), won't even remember this argument. Unlike players, franchises (for the most part) continue on for years and years and years. If you are a "Hakeem loyalist," then you really shouldn't give a rat's a** where he plays ball. It shouldn't matter one iota just like where any player who you love plays shouldn't matter, unless... you are a fan of the team as well.

What is really going to be interesting is to see what will happen to Dream once he leaves, whether that is this season or next. He is putting himself in a very precarious position. Assuming he does go to some other team, how many teams in this league would allow him to become "the man?" Maybe Chicago, but that's debateable considering Brand. No real contender would EVER consider making Hakeem their main guy at this point in his career. No one. He would make a nice piece to someone's puzzle, but he won't be the man anywhere ever again.

jeff, that was a very respectable comment, but what i meant when i said "hakeem loyalists need to unite", was not protest hakeem's leaving houston, i just wanted people in here to stop bad mouthing hakeem and just show him a little bit of respect on his departure.

I'm not sure what there is to respect. I don't see how disagreeing with his decisions or how he has handled the situations necessarily means being disrespectful.

I've always believed that, to be respectful of others, you not only allow them to be and do what they choose, but you are honest with them when you disagree. To lie and say, "Oh, I don't mind what you are doing," when you really do is about as disrespectful as you can get.

Essentially, you are saying that the other person is so frail that they cannot handle the criticism. I believe that Hakeem deserves our honesty and, if we don't like how he is handling things, we should be allowed to speak up. His legacy is owed as much to those of us who supported and loved him as it is to his own greatness. That is what sports is all about. Without the fans, professional sports would not exist.

I respect his decision, but I definitely do not agree with the way he has handled it and I don't think it is disrespectful to say so.

i wasnt talking about you jeff. there have been others that have gone out of their way to be rude and disrespectful towards hakeem.if you do not agree with his ways of handling things that is fine , everyone is entitled to their opinion. but there is no need to rip the guy as others have been doing.

All Hakeem wants is to play. He doesn't want to be the team's main go to guy, he has said that before. All he has wanted is to get some crunch time minutes, get a few touches, and not get benched behind Bullard. LET THE MAN PLAY OUT HIS FINAL SEASON! He should go out like a superstar, on his original team. LET HIM PLAY!!

I'm assuming I'm one of the people you're referring to dc rock.

I'm just trying to be consistent. I ripped Pippen, now I'm doing the same to Dream because he's basically doing the same to us.

Dream doesn't deserve any more respect because of the joy he gave me, he's got all he needs in his 16 million.

I say good riddance and bye, bye unnescessary distraction (and hopefully some non-true Rocket fans).

During a post game interview, Francis said "Its been great playing with Hakeem. Many times Rudy calls a play and Dream will give up the ball. He demands his touches, but will pass to everyone."

    Tell me this bashers:

    1) Why should Bullard get more 4th period playing time than Olajuwan?

    2) How many bad shots a game does Cuttino need, while he develops?

3)What happened to rewarding your big men with shots for defensive plays/hustle?

The man is not asking to be the "go to" guy! He just wants to play ball and feel part of the team.

These same bashers said he didn't hustle and lost his drive/will to play?

Now he's a cancer and malcontent. I would also be pissed if I had to sit on the bench while watching Bullard's ole defense.

    ------------------
Respect Hakeem's legacy. A championship in the hand is worth two in the bush!!

Jeff, I agree with you about the way it was handled. And yet, this was all very carefully orchestrated, and whatever happens next (trade or waive) will also be carefully orchestrated (Dream on the IR, once he's off the IR, he makes his announcement, CD says he can't see Hakeem leaving....) Did CD and the organization know exactly what would be said and when? I think probably yes. Sometimes the producer or director has to take as much blame as the actor. (Just saying. Not lecturing.)
