Great illustration of the importance of drafting well, especially in clusters of years when you have subsequent high picks. Hope we didn't f*** it up this time and end up with at least two stars out of this young group.
Well I thought he was top 5 but I guess if he's much better than he should be better than LeBron and Jordan then?
There's a decent argument that since the majority of the Top 10-15 of all time are post players, being the best means more than being the best wing.
I always heard Portland wanted to trade the 2nd pick and Drexler in 84 (they used on Sam Bowie) for Ralph Sampson. The Rockets could have drafted Jordan and had all three. What dynasty that would have been.
Idiot. He was our dog, dude. He did the grunt work. Could grab you 20 boards a game. Was an absolute beast on defense.
Difficult for me to imagine a team knowing back then you can play 2 “shooting guards” at the same time without needing a traditional PG. as the game has moved beyond positions today, no problem. But back then it’s hard to imagine they would have ever used a pick on a HOF SG if they thought they already had one.
Good point. Who knows what they would have done if they had the made the trade and had the 2nd pick. Perhaps they may have taken Barkley since they would haven needed a PF or traded down picking up more assets and drafted Stockton. Or maybe they would have drafted Bowie to play PF which would have been a huge mistake. Just having Dream and Drexler on the same team for 10-15 years would have led to a few more rings for them.
Drexler was coming off the bench as a rookie so its not like they know for sure hes the guy, but also sfs were sometimes no bigger than the sgs so they could have put Clyde at rhe 3. I honestly think he could have been the point guard too.
He was so impossibly good that it’s hard to quantify. His reflexes defensively were ridiculous. Dude was a freak.
