Some of your concept of "Team Loyalty" is so funny. What is a basketball team? Rudy and Les? Or those 2 words "Houston Rockets" Tomorrow Les moves his basketball company to Alaska and Karl Malone bring in his troops to Houston, I bet you are going to love Karla on th spot!?

No! A team is made of players. To blast Hakeem is order to protect this capitalist product called the Houston Rockets Franchise is downright stupid and ignorant. Who is really benefiting from your team loyalty? Les and Les only. Francis and Mobley will be much happier if you like them as individual ball players instead of players on a team in Houston.

Go on. Kiss the Rockets Franchise's ass. It won't take more than a few years before you guys have to blast Francis too because he will definitely leave the team sooner or later. And you can keep imagining how much Les and Rudy love the city called Houston.

It amazes me why you don't protect Microsoft with the same zeal.

Our season has sucked because of injuries, it's easy for Little Hakeem to go bashing the organization that helped surround him with the talent that finally helped him (and he was 90% of why we won, dont get me wrong) win a championship.

If someone asked him what he thought of the Rockets currently, the classy thing would have been a "no comment" or "they've been hit with a lot of injuries" comment.

Of course Dream wouldn't say something like that...

Instead he takes shots at the same people that were sobbing in the press conference announcing that he was gone...

Did Dream forget about the Rockets not trading him to the Raptors a few years ago for a super package that would have helped them immensely in the big picture?

Why did they not go through with that deal again?

Oh yeah, loyalty, I guess $13M wasn't enough loyalty for Dream...

Hakeem is just mad. He blew it for a few dollars more. He misses Houston and wonders how he wound up leaving. Doesn't want to admit his pride got in the way.

Also he just realized that he is stuck in Toronto through the whole long, dark, cold winter. Probably has a case of SAD, seasonal affective disorder. It would be enough to put me in a bad mood, too.

Too bad, we all make mistakes. It is just hard to admit them sometimes.

Hope it is sunny and a perfect spring like day the next time he comes to play in Houston!

Hakeem's a whiner. Oh well. What else is new?

Hard to care to much about him when we have the WORST RECORD IN THE LEAGUE.

I must admit that Hakeem has always been my favorite player. As such, I was stung a little bit by his comments, as a Rockets fan and loyalist. But I have grown to recognize that most highly-paid pro athletes are prima donnas. As are many highly-paid actors and other entertainers. They have a distorted sense of reality from what us little people have, perhaps because they have never had to go paycheck to paycheck, and everywhere they go, people stare at them or tell them how great they are.

This is not to say that they do not work hard, or deserve the fruits of their labor. That is another topic. If I was in the position of these gifted few from a young age of life, I probably would be the same, or worse. But nonetheless, we should realize that we have made these people prima donnas by worshiping them, and should not be suprised when their off-court actions or character disappoints us. For myself, I will try in the future to appreciate the athletes for their on-court heroics, and not their off-court actions. Otherwise, I will always be disappointed.

This is not true unless the "divorce wasn't on good terms." Good grief, man. All people are not vindictive and need to spew vitriol like Hakeem Olajuwon. Hell, do you see Hillary Clinton bashing her cheating husband...hehe. anyhow, forget the Hillary comment...it is not worthy of this thread...just thought I'd use it since you pulled the divorce analogy. Your divorce analogy is insulting, again. You just can't stop insulting and stereotyping people to make your point. I have never bashed any of my previous girlfriends...and would for godsakes NEVER do that to my wife. There are many divorces that are amicable...and sincerely so. And there are MANY superstars who get amicable divorces from their teams, too. kbm, your protectionist attitude is fine. But your "we should be ashamed" stuff sucks.

    zrb,

Honestly spoken my ass. Propaganda can be called "honesty," too.

People stereotype crispee. You I and everyone on earth. For crying out loud, it is a fact of life. And while I commend your effort to believe people good - unless given reason to question them - that just isn't the norm either. News flash people have alterior motives in just about every situation. And all I am saying is that hakeem should be judged on what he did for houston not what remarks he makes. He is just saying what everyone in his situation would be thinking anyway. I mean do you really think les, cd and rudy's first response was I am so "heartbroken" - give me a break!

the more kbm posts, the more I lose respect for him.

You can't argue worth a damn. Apparently you can't comprehend other people's posts very well either. All you do is go off tangent.

Your off-base analogies crack me up.

    lol.

Man, get off your high horse, PLEASE!!! Did you even see Rudy's response in the paper? It makes Hakeem smell even worse. You keep inferring that we shouldn't treat professional athletes as 'commodities'. Why the hell not?! They get paid VERY well to play a game. How can I feel sorry for someone earning 20 times what I am just because he was born with a freakishly tall body? I can't when it comes to issues of respect or money. You're asking 'where's the respect'.......it's in the friggin paycheck!! Hakeem was repaid for 'all that he's done for Houston' when HE accepted 16 million while playing like man who's worth 2 million.

You keep talking about what Hakeem has done for Houston. Let's put this in perspective. He played basketball for a franchise that's located in Houston. He was one of the highest paid players because he played at a extremely talented level. The Houston Rockets won two titles with him on the team. (This is a TEAM that won the titles, by the way). And because the Rockets won two titles and Hakeem was the biggest reason are we to worship this man like did something for the City out of his heart? Hell, Jeff has done more for this City, IMO, than Hakeem did. Where was Hakeem when the stadium referendum was going on? I don't remember him giving his time to further the cause. All I've seen from Hakeem is a greatly talented basketball player who seems very selfish and petty. He would not take less money and a lesser role to help out the Rockets. He wanted the most money he could get and he got it. Nothing wrong with that, IMO. Just don't spew crap out to your lackey, Fran, and backstab the organization, Dream!!

Assuming the break-up actually was acrimonious, I might say bad things about my ex to my friends!

I would not, however, broadcast my sour grapes over national TV showing myself to be a major whiny piece of $#%.

I swear, the Hakeem apologists would find a reason to justify it if the man shot their dogs, screwed their wives, and took a big dump in the middle of their beds

    Hmmm...

The more Rocket BBSers speak about this, the more I lose respect for them.

You judge people based on the remarks they make. You lost respect for posters because of comments they made. Why shouldn't I lose respect for Hakeem because of comments he made?

If you look at the statement I made in context major, I was trying to point out the stupidity in the same statement made by crispee. However, it backfired since crispee pointed out I was speaking on the board, too. Next ....
