so with your 'logic' you think that a player that once dominated the game like no other, a player that won an MVP, 2 Finals MVP, 2 Rings, one of the 50 greatest player of all time will settle for being a BACKUP? greeeaaat logic. that's why dream left town in the first place. dream and you share two things--being dillusional and being in denial. he kept thinking that he could be 'the man' and that everything has to go through him first. it used to work back in the day, but he's old and slow now. he WOULD make a competent backup, but if we were ever to get him back (highly unlikely) i would rather make him retire than to submit him to sit on the bench waiting TO SUB for Yao or heck Cato. and about the member thing: it was a pun, a joke, some sarcasm. you'll learn all about that in 10th grade english next fall.
I know that Othella Harrington has said that Hakeem helped him. Sorry I wasn't able to find the links, but I do remember him talking about it. I'll keep looking, and if I find any of the links I'll post them.
For the moment now, he is settling as a backup in Toronto to Keon Clark now, who emerged out of nowhere. The Rockets can find some way to woo him back so he can instead be a backup to Ming. I'm pretty sure the Rockets will find some time for him, and it would be great to see him end as a Rocket. Good comeback w/ this. Smoooth.
I was at the Houston City Club one day last summer working out and I noticed this man and he looked very familiar. He was the old Rockets Equipment Manager/ Trainer and that is how I recognized him, from the Rockets championship days and the Clutch City videos that came out between 94-95... Anyway, he opened up to me about Les Alexander, Hakeem, & the Rockets organization as a whole. He said that Hakeem was indeed pretty angry/ irritated at how the Rockets organization had been treating him, and how Les Alexander was frugal 99% of the time with his business decisions. He said that all the Rockets organization really does is hire & fire interns who will work for next to nothing and then cycle them through. No major inside scoop came from the talk, but it was during the heat of the Hakeem negotiations so that gave me a clue as to how things would go down that summer. This man was a Equipment Manager for many years and he expressed how he was upset at how the organization treated him as well, so maybe that was why he was opening up to me. We talked for like 5-10 minutes as we were watching TV in the locker room. I am sorry to say but this is the same Rockets trainer that died last year while driving in Colorado on business. Weeks after I spoke with him at the gym I saw on the local sports that he had passed.
ZRB- Here I am! whew, im so relieved. a thread isnt a thread until you post a reply, i was getting worried i was wasting my time till i read what you wrote. thanks for gracing us with your presence. im never talking to my xgirlfriend ever again, and neither should the rockets.
nWo34Life: Unfortunately, a good portion of the posters on this site demonstrate the "jilted lover" mentality. They tend to give more weight to what transpired in the ONE MONTH prior to last season, than the previous 20 years. It's almost as if they would have no problems ending a beautiful 20-year marriage, then turn around and talk bad about their spouse (still almost a year later), after one small argument about who forgot to take out the trash. Sad I know, but it's unfortunately so true. There are still a few of us around here, however, who realize that ONE PERSON gift-wrapped two championships for this pitiful sports town, and we won't let what happened in that last month change that reality. While others would seemingly rather take down those two banners hanging in the Summit, we still embrace the past and realize how fortunate and lucky we were to have lived it, something that most fans never get the opportunity to experience. We welcome you aboard.
Thank you Freak for welcoming me aboard. I'm a very AVID DREAM Fan! It broke my heart that he left us to become a.....CANADIAN!! No. #34 is my ALL-TIME FAVORITE PLAYER!! I know he wanted to try out Canada, and WE turned on him because of $$ and the offense was not going through him anymore. I felt he made the wrong decision and left us to go to Toronto. Hakeem is like the Houston Prodigal Son....I would welcome him back!! There some doubters on this thread who felt he was a traitor and I was like them. I was like that in the beginning, but I feel with an upcoming young rookie we are going to draft, Hakeem can be the teacher that the rookie needs to become close to a "second Hakeem". With a little muscle and added pounds to his upper body, he can bang w/ Shaq underneath!! I know Ming isn't going to be "The Dream", but at least he'll be a nightmare to...ahem...THE LAKERS!!!
Hakeem's gone folks. Being a Rocket fan is for life... the Rockets continue whether Hakeem's here or not. Wish the man well if he comes back for another season, but as far as I'm concerned, he's now just another player to get beaten by the Rockets.
Welcome, stopie! I wish Dream had never left and would retire as a Rocket. Having said that, now I just dream about not seeing this subject pop up again and again. We've lost him for good or ill... he'll go into the Hall of Fame in a Rocket uniform. This thread should go into the hall closet.
Stopie, it shows that he is goin to be making 5.5 mil over the next 2 years....if they were to get him, they might have to do a even trade for him....maybe Cato and #38 or something.....but you know that won't happen....a trade would have to be in the woodworks in order to get him...
