It's finally out...got my limited edition today. What a nice album. Doesn't sound too much different from the leaked version though...I kinda regret downloading it. Nigel said it was a crappy version but the LP sounds pretty much the same.
Just picked it up myself. As usual, they have really interesting packaging.. I'll listen on the way home from work in a few.. I also downloaded the 'album' before so it will be interesting to hear how different this one is..
Got mine for 9.99 at Tower Records in Austin. What is the diffrence in the limited edition. I didnt see that at the store.
The limited edition comes in the form of a road map. edit: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/r/radiohead/hail-to-the-thief.shtml Great review of the album.
Okay, I have listened to this album all the way through at least 3 times, maybe 4. I like the first 4 songs, but song #5 "Go to Sleep" is absolutely awesome. One of the best Radiohead songs ever! I like track #7, the one about sucking blood, very weird but surreal song. Track #8, "The Gloaming", is a cool song and one that reminds me of Kid A a lot. Track #11, "A Punchup Wedding" has a great piano part to it and is another classic. Those are the tracks that grabbed my attention the most. This album reminds me of "The Bends" in that the individual tracks are strong but as an overall album, it doesn't flow like "OK Computer" or "Kid A" (sue me, that is my personal favorite album by them). Yet, every time I listen to "Hail to the Thief", I enjoy it more and more. I could never say the same thing with "Amnesiac". Definitely one of the top choices, IMO, for album of the year.
Amnesiac really grew on me over time. When it first came out I thought it just sounded like a weaker version of Kid A, but after about a year or so I began to appreciate more for what it is. I think part of problem was that it came out too soon after Kid A (8 months as I remember), so Kid A hadn't really had time to set in with me. It takes me a while to digest a new CD because after I listen to it straight through 2 or 3 times, it gets mixed into my 300-disc changer, which I mostly listen to on shuffle. I liked Hail to the Theif immediately, but I haven't given it a full-on listen since the week it came out.
OK Computer comes close. But you're right. Planet Telex...what a way to start an album. Street Spirit (Fade Out). What a way to end an album.
If it wasn't for Fitter Happier, I might say I like OK Computer slightly more than the Bends. Either way, they are so close that its a crapshoot. Kid A is right up there too.. Can't wait for the show in 2 months!!!
Blasphemer!! Eh, I am not surprised about this statement considering it is coming from the biggest Poison fan I know.
yeah, i thought i would chime in too. i really like "sit down, stand up" (track 2) and "sail to the moon" (track 3), especially i also like "punchup at a wedding" manny. these guys blew my mind a couple of weeks ago at Field Day. here is the set list from Giants stadium june 7 01. There There 02. 2+2=5 03. The National Anthem 04. Lucky 05. Just 06. Kid A 07. Go To Sleep 08. Climbing Up The Walls 09. Backdrifts 10. Sail To The Moon 11. Sit Down. Stand Up 12. Pyramid Song 13. No Surprises 14. I Might Be Wrong 15. Where I End and You Begin 16. Paranoid Android 17. Idioteque 18. Everything In Its Right Place encore: 19. Exit Music 20. Myxomatosis 21. Talk Show Host 22. How To Disappear Completely when they play Kid A and amnesiac live, it baffles me that they are making these sounds that i am hearing. i have seen them 3 times now and they keep getting better.
Supergrass is a very good band though. I've got a major weakness for any power trio. Probably has something to do with my lifelong fetish for The Police. I'll have to show up early to hear them, unlike the last Houston RH show. Funny, I wasn't too hip on Kid A or Amnesiac...until I saw the show. I guess you look at songs differently after you've seen them performed live.
