Had Martin been acquired this off-season, would it change your outlook?

Let's say the Rockets traded McGrady at the deadline but didn't do the Landry deal. They actually probably would have ended up with more than 42 wins because their chemistry wouldn't have been affected as much and Landry was great for them.

Then let's say in the off-season, they sent out Ariza and Landry and added Martin, Lee, and Brad Miller. Would there be more optimism going into the season had that happened? I'm pretty sure there would be. Adding a 20+ppg guy would have been looked at as a huge off-season upgrade, compared to the rather modest (in perception) moves that have been made thus far.

I guess the point is these big trade deadline deals usually have more bearing on the next season than they do the final few games of the season they're made in. You don't just make a big change like that and reap all the benefits immediately. Martin should be looked at as more of an off-season move than a holdover from last year.

Ok ... but what deal do they get done for McGrady? You'd also have to factor in whichever players they may add with that.

I do agree with you if the Rockets chose to let McGrady's contract expire, which many posters were actually advocating.
