So no one is gettin driver compatibility issues at all? I want to install it but Ill only do it once everyone thats not a computer genius can safely say that they run it w/o having problems. Also can i install it w/ the option of being able to load mac or xp when my computer boots up?
There is no such thing as a complete 100% fail safe install. Just cause it works perfectly for one person doesn't mean that it will work for everyone perfectly. Your basicaly goignto have to read what everyone has written so far and learn from it and install it yourself.
So Basically Apple is the Nintendo of the PC world. Exclusive software apps and inferior hardware. Definitely works! The profit margins on these companies are through the roof!
Mini-Macs cost the same (a little more really) as a high-end Intel based machine (minus gaming cards)... and the Intel based PC will run circles around a puny mini-mac.
if you installed them on two seperate hard drives with Windows on the primary (boot) drive you can...
I know that it had some type of emulator to run powerpc binaries but are there native apps for it yet?
Firefox is compiled, as are some of the open source apps. Rebuilding the UNIX apps would be fairly trivial. Consumer apps are not available, although Photoshop may be available P2P. Remember, this product has not been released. Legally, there are ZERO customers (excluding the developer community) until next year for MacOSX/Intel apps.
I officially hate Linux. I respect Linux. I've tried using Linux. And, it's like sushi - no matter how many times I try it, and no matter how many varieties of it I try, it still sucks balls. Red Hat, Suse, ubuntu, whatever... it all sucks. Linux sucks balls. Is it powerful? yes. Is it more structurally sound than Windows? yes. Does it still suck balls? yes. Words cannot describe how much I hate Linux right now. And there are many, many people who have told me, "Oh what build did you try? That's not good for a newbie. You should try xyz Linux." And I try it. And it sucks balls. They're just like the sushi lovers who say, "Oh, what kind of sushi did you try? You should have tried xyz sushi. Where did you eat it? See, you shoulda eaten at the wxy restaurant." I've tried many different types of sushi, at various different restaurants, and it all sucked balls. And Linux sucks balls, too. I want to like Linux. I really do. But every friggin' attempt I make toward Linux turns into a friggin' nightmare. Tonight is no exception. Linux is crap. Now, mind you, I'm not a computer idiot. I've got over 12 years experience in the IT field, and I current manage a software development department. I've assembled my own PC, I'm the guy that fixes all the computers of his friends and families. I'm the tech guy. And I have to say, without a doubt.... Linux is crap. It really is. And you know what? It always has been. It was years ago that I first tried using Linux, and the struggles I encountered then are no different than the struggles I encounter now. They've tried to polish it up and make it look all pretty, but you can't polish a terd. It's crap. Maybe you're a Linux lover. Maybe you get it. That's great. I'm happy for you. ... .. . ... .. .No. Not really. I hate you. I hate you because for some reason, you're able to catch on to all the Linux bullsh!t in the entire stupid OS like it was completely natural to you, while I struggle to do the simplest of things. It's as if I picked up a book written in Japanese and I can't undersand a friggin' word of it. Yet you, the Linux lover, seem to be able to learn and speak Japanese instantaneously. I really hate you. Now, it's not the principle of Linux I hate. No, I'm very happy and thankful that there are so many people out there who are willing to write free and open-source software. I respect and admire that. But it still doesn't change the fact that Linux is crap. It really is crap. I don't love Microsoft. Not at all. But at least I can get things done in Windows. I can figure stuff out. Linux? Well, it's just crap.
soooo.. what you're saying is... linux is crap. i'm actually inclined to agree. unless they make it 100x more user friendly, it'll always be in the shadow of microsoft.
have you tried reading a book on linux? maybe linux for dummies? If you just jump in, you'll probably experience exactly what you are feeling now.
Oooohh... thank you for reminding me about this. Yes! I have tried reading books about Linux. A problem with this sensible idea is that there are a bazillion different builds of linux that do things in totally different ways. Different builds of Linux also come with varying system software apps, thus making it difficult to find a book which will actually apply to the OS which you have installed. AND... since the apps are constantly under development, they are constantly in a state of change. You end up with the book telling you to do one thing (because it's based on an early version of the apps) when in fact, the software has changed and the info you're getting from the book is old and obscolete. No no... Linux truly is crap.
Sooooooo I take it your Hack-a-Mac install isnt going well? you probably hate me...I have never had a problem undrstanding and using linux....all the way back in the days when it was much harder to use than it is now...
My hack-a-mac project was going great - right up to the point where I installed the Mac partition onto th wrong drive, destroying my main file store. I now get to try to reurrect about 140 gig of data. R2K, I love ya man. But I hate you.
I know I dont need to tell ya, but as long as you dont do anything else to the drive, it should be easily restorable. I used to use the bigger names like Easy Recovery, but recently I found a great little utility that actually works better...I dont remember the exact name right now...but if you are interested...I can dig it up when I get home...the exe file is small enough that I can eaily send it to you.
R2K I love to play around with software I havent heard about.. if you happen to find what it is could you post the name of it?
