Man-made global warming is happening. Though, I think Al Gore has other motives than educating people. I think he wants to scare everyone, as do other people on both sides of the fence.
Bob Ballard would disagree with you; it's all about funding. Get to the final interview for the pertinent part. http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=5825993n
I saw the whole Ballard 60 Minutes piece yesterday and while he said that it takes stars to get funding he never said that puts the science in question. Ballard certainly wouldn't say his own stardom puts his research in question even though he does lament that he is known more for finding the Titanic than many other finds that are more scientifically significant. For that matter Ballard didn't discuss climate science on the piece.
I saw the entire piece, too. He talked about pure science being a "we" endeavor but that most of our culture foments a "star-centered" I culture. To wit: Al Gore in the climate debate... and he's not even a scientist!!!! I posted the Ballard clip in response to the insinuation that scientists have no agenda or questionable motivation. They can and in some cases they do in reality. I'm not accusing Ballard at all. He's not really in a political fight-- unless he starts griping about NASA's budget being 1000X his...
you must not be serious. Reputation, academic career, advisory fees, research funding, government funding...everything. Now, I'am not saying the underlying theory is correct or incorrect.
Check out BP's newest billions of investment in the golf, and what kind of product it produces. It is seen as too expensive at the moment, but will surely be profitable if policy changes.
