No way! I thought according to June Jones that Brennan (best QB in the ALL the land) could play any offensive scheme but, Tebow was a SYSTEM only QB! Quite possibly one of the dumbest statements ever made by a head coach. Brennan > Tebow. Are you kidding me? Not even a contest! LOL! What a joke? And Fox is the unwitting recipient of it all. The ratings for this game probably were already low and they probably now are nonexistent.
I also respect the whole tradition argument, but this year is a little ridiculous. They need to revamp their agreement and allow the best team to play in that bowl if the champion from either league is in the NC game. Isn't that what happened when UT played Michigan in the Rose Bowl? I might be mistaken.
In the entire history of laughter....I don't I've ever heard the letter "b" used. You should get that checked out.
I think Brennan dropped from 2nd round to 5th with this one game. Amazing how that can happen.. hype based on inferior competition followed by a single shot against a good team. Who knows, he may still impress at the next level...but without a line (and with that low release that got his balls tipped a lot), he couldn't show it today.
Pretty much. There were fewer BCS teams then... and in that particular year, Utah was automatic (went to the Fiesta) and Texas was at No. 4... which forced the Rose Bowl to select them because they were the only team left and there wasn't another at-large team from which they could choose. The Rose was dying to take Cal to play against Michigan for the same reason they picked Illinois this year... it just so happened that Texas got into the top four and was locked in. The Rose already has the right to allow the best team, like you said... they just chose not to use it. So, so dumb.
I knew the game was over when Hawaii's players came out with their cameras / camera phones taking shots of the stadium/atmosphere. Looked like they were happy to just be in a BCS game while Georgia felt they should have been playing in the title game and came out with something to prove. As far as Brennan is concerned - his draft stock definitely took a major hit - the speed and athleticism on Georgia's defense is comparable to what he would face in the NFL. He's soft too - I doubt he amounts to anything in the NFL.
If I understand it correctly, the part in bold would have prevented the Rose Bowl from selecting Georgia. Yes, Mizzou should have been in the BCS, but if the Rose takes Mizzou, you're left with the Orange Bowl having to pick Illinois, Arizona State, or Clemson as their selection. If a bowl loses a host team to the NCG, then such bowl shall select a replacement team from among the automatic-qualifying teams and the at-large teams before any other selections are made. If two bowls lose host teams to the NCG, each bowl will get a replacement pick before any other selections are made. In such case, the bowl losing the No. 1 team gets the first replacement pick, and the bowl losing the No. 2 team gets the second replacement pick. If the Rose Bowl loses both the Big Ten and Pac-10 champions to the NCG, it will receive two replacement picks. A bowl choosing a replacement team may not select any of the following: A. A team in the NCG; B. The host team for another BCS Bowl; C. When two bowls lose host teams, then the bowl losing the number one team may not select a replacement team from the same Conference as the number two team, unless the bowl losing the number two team consents.
That's absolutely silly, then, and that's a rule that needs to be changed immediately. The "tradition" isn't the SEC and the Sugar Bowl. It's the champion of the SEC and the Sugar Bowl. Same as I said earlier with the Pac 10 and Big 10. I'm not saying Georgia wasn't deserving -- obviously, they're a great team and they were. But they shouldn't be contractually obligated to play in a specific BCS bowl based on conference unless they win their conference. As for the Orange Bowl, have you seen ticket sales for the game? Kansas struggled to sell out its initial small allotment even offering tickets discounted by more than $80 to students. Tickets have gone for as little as $15 on eBay. Arizona State and Illinois are close to as deserving as Kansas from an on-field perspective (record is almost irrelevant when you don't play legit opponents) and can't be worse financially. I'm just sick of the media praising the BCS as the elite of the game. I understand there are all sorts of little clauses involved and it's about creating the best matchup for corporate interests. But the media and fans need to stop going on and on about it when the bowls themselves clearly aren't prioritizing what gives them the best matchups on the field.
