That's exactly right. HEB is a full on supermarket with stocked shelves and mainstream products like Doritos, Coke, and Bud Light. Trader Joe's wants to remain relatively under the radar, which is why they refuse to advertise. Once Trader Joes starts popping up in every suburb, the brand will deteriorate and it'll no longer be a cool place to shop.
In my college days, the butt was responsible for much debauchery and general grabassery. Schaefer for 89 cents a sixpack....and the infamous 4 bottles of champagne for 5 bucks.
HEB is like a shapeshifter in the Xfiles. For example, it can be HEB Mercado or HEB central market, both will be different and both will satisfy their shoppers. You try finding plantains for .99 cents a pound anywhere else... It won't happen. I also love their Ice Cream. It's the 'bestest'. =)
The flagship on Westheimer & Wilcrest? EDIT - The HEB at I-10 and Bunker Hill does indeed kick ass. Makes me happy living in the SV.
Oh, I didn't even realize there was one there so assumed the closest one to you would have been that Flagship. And my sister likely would have worked there when you did and I would have had to apologize for your having been exposed to her evil. So, I am glad you worked at store #11 instead.

HEB in The Woodlands @ 45 and Sawdust = best prices in town (although Target is getting closer which is a surprise). It's not the cleanest, most modern place but it's no slum either.
I agree with the bolded part, and in fact, I still live by that philosphy today. But you could make serious bank as a sacker back in the day. I used to bring home $50/day in tips. That may as well be $500/day when you're in the 10th grade.
yeah, that is the one closest to my place too and i don't go. i actually pay more at the kroger in river oaks but they always have great produce, friendly staff and the musician greeting you. for quick things, i go to the kroger on 11th and shepherd. i hear they are recontructing it to be the largest kroger.
Really, so that's what they are doing? This is good news since I live within walking distance of that Kroger's. We desperately need a big grocery store over here so if this is true I'm really looking forward to it.
