giddy, I'll get back to you in approximately 7.3 years after I've analyzed each and every single word in that interview on its own and also as part of its local phrase. I'm sure "elite" is just the tip of the iceberg in her inappropriate, disturbing utterances.
Lord, if the word "elite" was ever associated with GWB or, dare I say, any Republican... the caterwauling would not stop.
dubya is an elitist... unfortunately for us he did nothing to earn that label other than being born into the right family.
it's not the liberals who use that word as a smear. well, except hrc in the primaries, but she was just trying to win the nomination.
Read the post, dolt. He used the term "vitiligo" which refers to a disease where the person loses pigment. So yeah, he was calling me white.
if a black person is an executive at a major corporation pulling in a seven figure salary, he/she is part of an elite class, same would be for a hispanic, asian, or whatever. elite is the class, its just defined by being "elite", nothing else.
The thing, I think, being overlooked here is that Obama is an elected official and a public servant. Doesn't elitism smack of inserted "permanence?" Ifill's remarks about these elitists "taking charge" threatens to do to the Democratic Party what the neocons did to the Republican Party. If you're not worried, I guess I shouldn't be...
Obama is an elite individual, he's a harvard law grad, a state senator and a president. you're making something out of a simple description to describe his success.
You're confusing the terms 'elite' and 'elitist/elitism'. They're not synonymous. The latter pair is the one which has been given the negative connotation, for whatever odd reason. The connotation of the term pertains more to a superior mindset. There's no negative connotation for 'elite.' It's simply the cream of the crop. In the context you are describing, there's nothing alarming or noteworthy in her usage of the term.
e·lit·ism or é·lit·ism (ĭ-lē'tĭz'əm, ā-lē'-) Pronunciation Key n. 1. The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources. 2. 1. The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class. 2. Control, rule, or domination by such a group or class. I will refer again to Ifill's words that "Obama is the leading edge of the whole new generation of young, black, educated elite officials who are really taking charge." Obviously these are scant references, but her words seem to be trending toward elitism due to her recognition of this special group. I just don't think this "concern" can be so easily dismissed. Has anyone read her book?
That's probably a fair interpretation. There are enough Vernon Jordans and Dick Parsons(es) who fit that specific description.
No, it seems you are the one with poor reading comprehension. He said REVERSE vitiligo. Yes, i know exactly what vitiligo is, but he intentionally said reverse. The character he was comparing you to claims he has reverse vitiligo, meaning he gains pigment. Why argue about a reference that you never really got? And the name calling, classy...
Everyone should strive to be the elite. This lowered expectations, mediocrity A-OK-USA bull**** is what landed us in the ****tons of trouble because that Admin cherry picked people not out of their merits but rather their superficial and supposed ideological principles. If you want firsthand look at elitism, visit an investment bank while they're still around and ask who they're pallin with.
he is special, he's one of 43 men in the history of the world way to take the definition of "elitism" by the way, here's the definition of "elite". e⋅lite /ɪˈlit, eɪˈlit/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [i-leet, ey-leet] Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1. you wingnuts are all over, you believe in competition and people striving to be the best, and when someone does who you don't agree with, you call the elite as if it is evil. edit: this is hilarious, the nuts have perverted a perfectly fine to term to describe exeptional people who've accomplished exceptional results and life and then complain that someone uses the term applying their own perverted meaning
