So, in your opinion, women like Eve, Da Brat, Missy Elliot and Lil' Kim have no redeeming value? What do they lack that their male counterparts have -- rhyming skills, musical ablity or maybe just the ability to form words?

DCKid,

Come on ... some women rappers are awesome ... Salt n Pepa ... they were good! I wanna shooooooop baby!! And Eve has some pretty cool stuff too.

The new Celine Dion CD is very, very good. How about the Bangles? There is also Cher, Chante Moore, Tamia and Christina Aguilera that I love. Can't wait for Aguileras new CD. I am also a big fan of the old Mariah stuff ... Vision of Love has got to be one of the most beautiful songs! And I'm a huge Janet fan too ... but I don't know if she has "chick" songs.

I've always loved Janet Jackson's song, "Again." Its such a great little tune. Nice flow to it. Velvet Rope is my fav CD from her. Hell, I even bounced my head to that song she did on the "Nutty Professor 2" soundtrack. Crap, I may have admitted too much...:)

a. Madonna is my favorite artist and Britney Spears is tied for my second favorite so i definitely like chick singers.

b. Material Girl is my favorite Madonna song and it's always a little weird when the first words you sing along to in a song are "some boys kiss me, some boys hug me." if i was gay it might make sense, but i'm not so it's a little weird. but it doesn't stop me from singing along. also singing that i'm a material girl seems a little strange too.

c. pop radio is actually overplaying the songs i like right now and they are almost all female singers. Pink "don't let me get me", shakira "underneath your clothes", michelle branch "all you ever wanted" (my favorite of these), vanessa carlton "1000 miles" (didn't think i would like it after first hearing it, and i don't thing she looks like michelle), sheryl crow "soak up the sun" and alanis "hands clean". i feel like i need to listen to some guys sometimes after hearing these all day. godsmack helps me out a little if klol is playing them

d. and "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid.

wow, i found the other male who likes this song. i hate that i like it but i do. also, the little mermaid is hot. yes she is a cartoon, but she is indeed hot.

e. when it comes to techno songs, i almost exclusively listen to songs with those airy female voices. guys and techno just don't mix for me.

it's weird, my sister likes the alt rock stuff the most and i like the pop stuff. should be the other way around.

in conclusion, i listen to a lot of chick songs.

Man, I really worded that badly. But yes, I do think they lack the rhyming skills and musical ability of the best male rappers. Of course, I lump most popular female rappers in with popular male rappers like like Puff Daddy, Ludacris, etc, who I also despise. In my opinion popular hip-hop is about the worst form of music on the face of the earth, and it keeps getting worse (excluding JayZ, a few others, and to a much lesser extent Eminem). But I like many underground rappers and a lot of old rap albums. But unfortunately there's not many female rappers in the underground. They're the ones making the same 'ole ready-to-sell rap music that the majority of their male counterparts are producing. But, it could change if some more like Lauryn Hill came on to the scene. Now that's a woman with soul!

I like a lot of women singers/groups that have women sing the lead such as:

Sarah McLachlan
Liz Phair
Beth Orton
Cocteau Twins (Liz Fraser)
Dead Can Dance (Lisa Gerrard)
Bjork
Kate Bush
Sheryl Crow
Dido
Enya
Everything but the Girl (Tracy Thorn)
Natalie Imbruglia
Lisa Loeb
Loreena McKennitt
Joni Mitchell
Portishead (Beth Gibbons)
Rose Chronicles (Kristy Thirsk)
Sundays (Harriet Wheeler)
