I'm all for Battier and all of his intangibley sweet goodness but....man..... -Battier was also almost traded along with the 25th pick for Brandon Rush and Travis Outlaw with the 25th pick being Batum- .....this would have made me forget him in about 31 seconds
first of all, that's not what i was refering to, but it doesnt matter if they cant put it together to make the playoffs. second, what i meant was they've given up a lot of talent in draft, so as much as rocket fans complain about who they could have had, the suns have had much worse luck. Rajon Rondo. Rudy fernandez. Nate Robinson, and some others. Guys they had, but traded away.
It's really cap space that Portland was trying to protect... had Miles not returned, Portland would have gotten a huge gift on the cap. I'm sure Paul Allen likes to save millions when he can, but I doubt he's afraid to pull the trigger on $1-$3 million deals to buy first round picks (and there likely will be many more deals like that this year, given how many NBA teams are hurting financially).
Phoenix also gave away the rights to deng if im not mistaken. The rox should revisit the outlaw trade this summe. If they can get outlaw and frye for shane, they should do it. Outlaw is getting better and better, but portland has a lot of guys at his position and might want a steady lockerrom guy like shane. We need the upside guy like outlaw and the size of frye. Everyone will be happy too.
100% agree....there aren't many trades in the NBA that both teams actually benefit from but this can definfately be one of them. The only thing I hate about including Frye is his 4.2 mil qualifying offer after next season. But Outlaw's contract ends at 4 mil after next year also. Even if he has a break out year, his next contract won't be outrageous.
Rudy F will not be great like Gino. He doesn't play D and if we wanted to Von could take him one on one like Roy does Ron. He's a great shooter and has limited finishing around the rim. Doesn't like contact. Taller and more athletic defenders give him grief.
So, how would things have played out with an L v Denver (instead of a poorly timed W?)? Roy would be a Rock. Battier wouldn't. The 4 would have been manned (sic) by Stro. What deals might have followed? Impossible to know. I regret the 'loss' of Roy; the loss of Fernandez, too. Battier and Brooks are pretty good consolation prizes. IMHO Portland would do Outlaw/Fernancez/Rodriguez #1 for Battier/Brooks. Would you? I would as I think Battier's use-by date is sooner than later and the Rox need some O. (BTW no Artest signing, no deal IMHO.)
I believe that we can thank Memphis for playing Darius just enough games to cause Miles to stay on the Blazer's books until the end of next season.
It sucks that we didn't get Roy, but he's from the Northwest and the Blazers sucked and were probably targeting him his junior year at UW. Besides that story of the draft, what ifs and we were so close. What if Detroit had got the first pick and got Lebron or picked Melo over Darko. The what ifs can go on forever.
The draft picks talent the Suns and Robert Sarver gave away: FOR CASH: Nate Robinson Luol Deng (lottery pick) Rudy Fernandez RAJON RONDO(my fav player in NBA!) James Jones who they decided to keep: Alando Tucker DJ Strawberry hmm... Man imagine what it'd be like if we got Brandon Roy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Freakin JVG not f*(*#)$@ willing to tank one freckin@$@$# GAME!!!
