It's good that you guys are aware of this. This is a very insidious lesson and most people won't even notice.
Rationale adults with the right amount of humanity in their "souls" - whatever that means - absolutely wouldn't be making so much fun of the situation. Absolutely I wouldn't want my dad (or mom, brother, sister, friend... myself if I was a cop) to get shot at and hurt by this criminal. But that doesn't mean I'd be rooting for the guy to off himself like that, and certainly if he did, I'd not be feeling in a jokey kind of mood, ya know.
Yea, I was expecting some blood. Kinda sad, but then again dude was probably a drug dealer. Still kinda depressing to see someone commit suicide like that though
point taken. I'll admit that media makes us numb sometimes with all the bad news like the gruesome killings from bath salts, dumb asses killing people all over the world for a youtube video, movie theater massacres, sandusky's, etc etc and even today with the situation in Minnesota, and whole lot more I'm forgetting (and also on a personal level of getting robbed a couple times) It's hard to keep things in perspective sometimes.
We are now living through the most non-violent period in human history. It's the selective intake of only horrible, violent news content that gives you that perspective.
I can't speak for human history but only my 40 years of existence.. there is more crazy news now than any other point in my adult lifetime. Definitely not selective intake.
