Of course he will return. He would've been traded along with Battier at the deadline if we did not have plans for him here. And to be clear, I would like nothing more than to watch our young bigs play and develop. With beating out Chuck being an integral part of that process. Just like how Scola and Landry did it.

I think he will return, but a lot depends on this new CBA, the details of same still being worked out. We may not be able to afford him. I hope so, but if we can't pay what Chuck's offered, I'll wish him well and be a bummed out fan.

Exactly, they have to earn it, and it's not so hard. Scola did it in half a season and then Landry completely got him out of the PF rotation. Chuck it's the only PF in this team that is able to play center without getting destroyed. That's the only reason he has been a starter the last couple of years.

If/When he signs, his ideal role on this roster (once we get a legit center) is to be a back-up/ crunch-time stopper specialist. Chuck has demonstrated he is reliable and a bargain, something we lack at the C spot, wanting him gone to create time for Thabeet is just ungrateful, and even with ethics aside (as it should be) it's plain stupid.

I would follow him as if he still were a Rocket, I think Boston is a good fit for him, Memphis too, OKC would be overkill although they need more low-post scoring help than defense.

Let's let arguably the best player on the Rockets last year go for nothing, a player that is young and dominant in his own way. Let's let the identity, the captain of the Rockets walk for absolutely nothing, so that Hasheem Thabeet can play.

A guy that is 28 years young, with likely 10 productive years in front of him. A legitimate first team all defense threat every year. A guy that will fit in extremely well at the PF/C for years, especially when Daryl has made it clear that the Rockets will be looking at trades to improve the team, not draftpicks. A cheap studly first big off the bench when we find the C that is not on the Rockets yet.

They should bring him back, let Thabeet walk he isnt going to develop into anything spectacular at all.
Sign Nene and hope to trade Nene along with Scola,TWill and picks in a package to get Dwight Howard. Dream over....

Practice makes perfect I couldnt agree anymore with you. Thabeet would benefit tremendously from an all time great in McHale. As for T-Will, forget the system because he is good enough to where you can run the offense through him.

    No.
Other teams will offer him a lot more money than he is worth. No point in the Rockets matching that.

LOL I think giving Hayes too much PT and little to none to T-Will is D reason his stay in Houston came to an end. I couldn't be any happier.

    You play your best players.

Chuck Hayes is infinitely better than Terrence Williams.

Again, the captain of the team will not walk in free agency. The Rockets are committed to Chuck Hayes.

Battier was no longer the glue man,Chuck had taken his place. He was still useful, but it was obvious that Gasol/Zach made things easier for him in Memphis. We did miss his defense, but we didn't collapse without him cause Lowry/Chuck led the way. Thabeet was the wrong guy,but the idea was right.

At the end of last season I posted the exit interviews some of the players had and he wanted to come back. Of course that was almost 8 months ago and the situation has changed a bit, to say the least (new CBA, new coaching staff).

The thread was here http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=203577 but the links don't lead anywhere since the lockout is still in effect and all player related info isn't back on nba.com yet.

I believe Hayes wasn't traded away because Morey could see him returning. Whereas there wasn't a chance in Hell Battier or Brooks were going to be resigned. But that doesn't mean he'll definitely return. Had the new CBA also included a high MLE, I think he's 100% gone. But I'm not sure how Morey value Chuck under the new CBA.

Chuck Hayes was not even "arguably" the best player on the Rockets last year. Not even close. Any team with Hayes as its best player would win 20-30 games. While I don't think Thabeet factors into whether Hayes stays or walks, let's not get carried away with Hayes' impact on a team. At best he's the backup PF/C on a contender.
