I hope this doesn't mean they will have to rebuild New Orleans (for what has been rebuilt anyway) yet again. I guess I will be wondering what the point of rebuilding it all over again is if the levees can't withstand the storm surge from another hurricane hit and flooding is widespread yet again. It means that the levee fixes made can't hold up...so why would they hold up in future storms? This could be worse than Katrina... depending on the strength of the hurricane, which side of the hurricane hits NO, and where the worst storm surge occurs. It doesn't seem like much of a plan to keep rebuilding New Orleans every 3 years. It may be the city used to get away with being below sea level...but nature is now dictating otherwise. Good luck, New Orleans. You are going to need it. Maybe if Brad Pitt comes back to town, his star power can deflect the worst parts of the storm? Hell, use all his children to stack sandbags.
Hello. My name is Gustav. I'm here to eat your New Orleans... nom nom nom! Ahhh! That was satisfying.
That duel didn't start until WELL AFTER THE WEDNESDAY THAT BILL WHITE TALKED ABOUT THE EVACUATION. The whole Neil Frank/Frank Billengsley argument started on Friday...48 hours after people started getting the hell out of Dodge. That's my problem with this revisionist crap. That Wed night, the hurricane was still being forecast by the NHC to make landfall at or near Galveston....as a Cat 4. That's the best information we had at the time. I'm not sticking around for that. I'll leave again if that forecast comes again.
Looks like the eye will make landfall in a little less than 24 hours but conditions will get worse well in advance of that in LA. In Houston/Galveston we may get a few rain bands tomorrow, possilbly flooding rains the next day if it stalls over east Texas.
Amazing a storm could reach from the south eastern tip of Florida to the eastern part of texas. That's huge.
Part of me wants to save NOLA but part of me thinks its for the best... Go, go yellow computer model!!
If Gustav damages New Orleans again I don't see how it will retain 50% of it's population. I know I wouldn't move back.
fellow Americans who raised the cities crime rate up the ass. Fellow Americans who started a riot at my high school, and others.. Westfield High School had the most katrina evacuees enrolled out of all the high schools in the country. I don't feel like dealing with the whole "**** HOUSTON", "**** NEW ORLEANS" thing. Therefore, Dallas can be the first in line to help fellow americans. Maybe, I'm just ignorant about the whole situation since I saw the "bad" side. http://www.click2houston.com/news/7081940/detail.html
The Chronicle guy is doing a live chat right now. He said currently we should get less than 2 inches.
