Have some of the new Aug 30th 18z model runs for the GFS, UKMET. These tracks will show up in the 8pm model update. 18z GFS: http://moe.met.fsu.edu/cgi-bin/gfstc2.cgi?time=2008083018&field=Sea+Level+Pressure&hour=Animation 18z UKMET: http://moe.met.fsu.edu/cgi-bin/ukmtc2.cgi?time=2008083018&field=Sea+Level+Pressure&hour=Animation
Watch the psychedelics man, your givin' me flashbacks. The Six o'clock channel 11 report made it look like a miss for us, I'm going to drop back to Defcon 2. My main factor is if I think the A/C is likely to go out. Right now I think it won't.
This thing is most likely a Cat 5 now. Because of that, it is near 900 MB AND because of that, it'll most likely make a straight shot north to New Orleans.
The 18Z model runs for the HWRF and the GFDL are now out as well. As before these tracks will be used for the 8pm model update. 18z GFDL http://www.coaps.fsu.edu/~maue/extreme/gfdl/gustav07l.2008083018/gustav07l.2008083018_anim.html 18z HWRF http://www.coaps.fsu.edu/~maue/extreme/hwrf/gustav07l.2008083018/gustav07l.2008083018_anim.html
I am supposed to drive to Nevada on Monday at 12 PM and I have to be in Nevada by Tuesday 12 PM. Will this hurricane affect the drive at all. What would I-10 to San Antonio be like on Monday ... or should we leave earlier?
How is this going to affect gas prices? I heard that gas prices are going to go up next week...just when they were going down
ftp://ftp.txdps.state.tx.us/dem/sitrep/Hurricane Gustav SITREP 5 083008.pdf a little info on what the state emergency people are saying.
Gustav is emerging into the Gulf. What is scary here is that Cuba didn't really weaken or slow it down at all and now this large area of very warm Gulf waters: sits right in front of Gustav's path.
^^^ After that warm eddy it looks like it will go through a cooler one. I bet we'll see Gustav react just like Katrina...reach wind speeds of 175mph and then taper off before making landfall.
Another bad thing for those who will lose power...there is a major shortage of guy wire and ACSR wire in the US market. These are the lines used to erect and get electricity back up and running. In the past we've have a warehouse full of material for emergency situations, now we are in dire need of wire and the mills can't get the rods to produce the wire as quickly as we need it. Those without electricity due to downed power lines may be in for a looong wait for power to be back up and running.
