I hope Gurriel sticks it to Manfred and appeals this ridiculous suspension. Harper got 4 games for fighting (reduced to 3). “Homophobic slurs” got a 2 game suspension earlier this season.
Yuli got scapegoated. If this was in a regular season game it would have gone nearly unnoticed. The MLB knew a WS suspension would have been too harsh, but considering other guys only got 2 game suspensions this season for homophobic slurs (more offensive IMO) they had to make a statement. I think 2 games next season would have been appropriate. 5 games is due to fear of backlash. All things considered 5 games in a 162 game season is not a big deal and I am thankful there is no WS suspension. Final takeaway: when it comes to offending any group of people, professional athletes had better tread very, very lightly. The tension is so high right now.
