I agree with this post. A lot of people don’t have the same views on race as we do. Hell, a lot of Asians are highly racist themselves, including Japanese. By definition, what Yuli did was probably racist. But I don’t think there was any malicious intent behind it. That being said, he’s in the United States now and needs to learn what’s okay and what isn’t in our society. As do a lot of people on this site. I hope they just give him a fine and move on. But if it’s a suspension, I hope it’s one game.
Did you read Yuli's statement? He did not intend to offend. Therefore, Yuli is not a racist. Did some take it as a racist gesture? Yes. But Yuli cleared that up. I'm just sick of people getting crucified instantly when no one knows what was said or what was intended. It was dumb if Yuli to do it. He apologized. End of story.
I’ve never been a fan of Yu (because he was a Ranger and now we’re playing against him as a Dodger) but I respect him and the grace he showed in his reply. This is what we need as a society to move forward and progress!
While being dumb, different cultures in PC USA, it looks worst than it really does. Fine him and then move on.
I don't give a **** if you flew up there just to support the Yankees. Don't come on here and disrespect people by calling them racist when it's not true. There's absolutely no benefit of having that on here, and it makes you look like an ******* (which I'm sure most people on this board think you are).
No it's not. He shouldn't have said **** until he had a chance to talk to Yuli himself. Now he wants to appear as holier than thou. Whatever, I'm just sick of faux outrage and good people getting instantly crucified when no one really knows what's going on.
It's at very least cultural ignorance. Just because Spanish people love to call all asians "Chinese". Doesn't make it right. How about if all hispanics were called Mexicans by an entire race of peopl? Correa.... Mexican. Altuve.....Mexican. Yuli....Mexican. Slanting your eyes is no different than painting black face and screaming "maammy" the intent is the same. Trying to downgrade it makes you come across as ignorant, or racist.
i truly believe that he's being honest when he says that it was his way of visibly communicating that he's happy cause he hasn't had much success against Japanese pitchers before. dude lived and played in japan for a year. he's a visual dude. look at his hair lmao. i really don't think there was any ill intent. I don't think he was acting as if his race was superior to yu's in anywayu at all. dude needs to learn from this though.
Stupid post of the year. Really? He has to speak to the person who racially mocked him first? Sounds aweful privileged of you to be angry at someone for being mocked.
My brother in law is Hispanic but looks straight azn.... I call him chinito all the time.. I'll give him a call in the morning and apologize...
He's not arguing that it's right though. He's just saying that that's how it is in Hispanic culture (calling them Chinese), which is pretty accurate. And yes is also common to call hispanics Mexicans. None of this is new [disclaimer] I'm not arguing that it was fine what Yuli did.
It was stupid and I would be shocked if he isn't suspended at least one game and probably 2 games considering the current climate in the country. They suspended Kevin Pillar for 2 games for yelling an anti-gay slur at a pitcher. The only good news is Yuli isn't nearly as good against lefties and the Dodgers have lefties going the next 2 games. So, move Marwin to 1st and put Maybin in LF I guess.
"Assumed"????? Please point me to any finger slanting of eyes gesture, not meant to mock someone race. Give me one instance pleeeeeease. By the very definition this IS racism.
I still haven't read about what McNair did...was off the internet until the game tonight and I can only handle 1 forum section at a time. Looks like I have some more reading to catch up on. And as far as Houston and stupid people: newsflash, they're everywhere. Yuli is a 33 year old Cuban who moved to the States a year ago.
Right, it is very common for hispanics to call all Asians Chinese. No it is not common for most white people to call every Hispanic person a Mexican.
