I never condemned anyone, and I already explained where I was coming from. It's analogous to those who buy stuff to overcome their dissatisfaction at a job. People cling to things that comfort them (even if its momentary) in order to cope with stress or depression. Whether or not the "guns and religion" statement is perfectly representative is really immaterial. Obama's point was correct. Now, I do think the "guns and religion" commentary was accurate, but that's really a different debate than the one I was articulating originally with respect to Obama's remarks.
