DREAMer, "The Great Diffusor" Ha, that was great! Obviously, that was nowhere near my intent. So what was my intent? Well, to make you laugh, as you said I was so good at doing. Please don't ever compare me to BK, that hurts way too much. My main point was that your Jeff/Swaggart analogy was horribly off and that you were just trying to illicit a response. there is such a huge differenc that it really is not worth fuly pointing out, thus the oversimplification and dreaded sarcasm. You have had idealogical "run-ins" with Jeff in the past, and so there is the foundation there for you to want to be hostile. Just as it is with me. I am not the only one who has said that you need to back off with Jeff, yet you only respond to me. I wonder why? There have also been jokes or humorous stories posted on this board about democrats, republicans, homosexuals, communists, slow drivers, etc. I don't recall you railing on all of them for having affected you "not in a positive way." I am sorry you and your wife have had some bad experiences at the hands of racists but I sure don't know what the point of that was. Jeff responded to your post before I got into this, so I don't see how I determined how Jeff read your post. Nice try, though. As far as me and my flaws...hee hee you cannot phase me - I am much meaner to myself than you could ever be! "For all the philosophy crap you talk about you still revert to the same caustic sarcastic crap a lot of uneducated people I know turn to. And, you do it without the style or substance I expect from you." Ha! just because i am going for my PhD does not mean I must always be eloquent. Really, if I want to russle with the "commoners" I must speak their language, right? And PLEASE do nto try to make it seem as if youe expect stylistic or substative posts from me! I am sure I bewilder you daily with my deft manipulation of the English language and my post-structuralist philosophical theses. You don't have to like or appreciate me, I can handle it. I was just being mean when I brought up the Mormon argument thing - it was Jeff's fault. ------------------ EZLN
I can't figure what's funnier: Jeff's post or the fact that DREAMer was offended by it. Dude you need to get a life. I'd also suggest that you never turn on the TV and watch these things we call sitcoms. God forbid you happen to turn on HBO and watch any of their comedy specials. What's up with the 'sensitivity police' on this board these days. When i suggested to Clutch last year (or was it the year before?) that we have a forum for all non-rocket-related conversation, I never thought things would get this bad. This is a place where all of us are supposed to just 'hang out' and talk ****. Get over yourself and lighten up. Anyone who has frequented this board with any regularity KNOWS that racism is the last thing that would be on Jeff's mind. DREAMer, you know that so what is your problem? All you are doing is stirring **** and confusing people. Jeff, I know you are above all of this so I doubt that this will alter the way you post or the frequency that you do it. Don't go changing, man! Next thing you know all you guys are gonna force Clutch to install the new government-issued PC-checker that instantly rewords all posts to make them non-offensive to all people everywhere. "Man, I was eating a burger while watching the game last night. Then my brotha Steve leapt like only he can and dunked right on that fool, Sabonis." Stop using the word 'man' when generalizing. Feminist find it offensive. 'Burger' is not an acceptable word or food, according to PETA. Stay away from words like 'fool', 'idiot', 'dumb-ass', etc. While the actual dumbasses and idiots and fools may not actually realize that they are supposed to be offended, there are plenty of people out there who are more than willing to be offended for them. So, Clutch's new PC-checker would take the above statement and turn it into: "You there, I was eating while viewing the game last night. I saw Steve jump up high and throw the ball through the hoop while being higher in the air than Sabonis." ------------------
Don't blame it 'cause you're brown... you're just stupid. I'm brown and I know what it is! Go to the Fantasy Leagues forum and look at the picture at the top. That's Cletus the Slack-jawed Yokel from the Simpsons. ------------------ "No Brain Grant, no trade." -- Typos are a b**** as ZRB is holding Rocket trades hostage while he seeks a brain. Okay, I was just trying to give Jeff a hard time. No big deal. But what you guys are doing to DREAMer is going a little too far. You had to expect some negative response from a post with such stereotypes in it (even in this forum). Poor Jeff, he probably was just trying to make a joke, and all this happens. Btw DREAMer, where the hell are you in the Hakeem threads? You wanna talk about someone taking a beating... [This message has been edited by TheFreak (edited January 22, 2001).]
The Dream thread you're getting blasted in is what I call courage. If nothing else, you have guts to fight that mob in there by yourself. I'll just sit back and watch. LOL! ------------------ "No Brain Grant, no trade." -- Typos are a b**** as ZRB is holding Rocket trades hostage while he seeks a brain. Freak: Funny thing is I never really getted irritated by your comments. Sometimes we disagree but I never view what you say as dogmatic or threatening or even condescending. Maybe I just view who you are differently from others. Unfortunately, DREAMer and I have had some history in our disagreements and that has a tendency to filter down to our posts when we disagree. He is a nice guy and I have nothing against him. I just thought this got out of control when it was just meant to be funny. I don't get many chances to be funny on this BBS. That is probably one of my downfalls. Humor has always been a big part of who I am but sometimes I'm just really too damn serious. DREAMer is done. I'm done. We all seem to be done. So, I'm shuttin' this mutha down and bidding a not-so-fond adieu to this thread. ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible.
I think you contributed to Jeff's inability to calmly read my post and get out of it what I was trying to say. Not likely. I'm not an idiot. I think rimbaud hit it on the head when he said there have been plenty of jokes wrtten about and shots taken at democrats, rebublicans, liberals, conservatives, blondes, slow drivers, etc etc. The point is that what you choose to defend is based on your ideology, not your problems with making fun of people. I'm sure you'd have no problem "being an ass" (as you put it) about plenty of people. In fact, I know you don't because you've done it repeatedly on this board. If mean-spiritedness is a problem for you, you should be defending EVERYONE in every thread who gets hammered by someone. But, of course you don't. You just chose this thread because you thought I made myself an easy target and you wanted the opportunity to take a shot at me, which is exactly the opposite of what you are preaching right now. The next time you poke fun at ANYTHING on this board, however, I'm sure we'll all remember what you've said here. So much for being funny. ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible.
Umm, no. I "chose" to read the thread because the title caught my eye. I chose to reply, because (although somewhat amusing) I found your story offensive. I wasn't trying to "take a shot at you". ---------------------- The truth is... I've found that all the Hakeem bashing really pisses me off, and maybe I haven't handled that real well. I've also found that I don't seem to be able to contribute to this forum (Hangout) without being overreacted to. I just don't find it fun anymore. It hasn't been any single person or post, just a culmination of things. So, adieu.
Wow, people are taking this way too seriously. I've done some stereotyping in the hangout, and stereotyping as been done against me. 99.9% of the time, it's been funny as hell. So, I'll be around, I ain't leaving, and I thank Jeff, mc mark, Freak, rimbaud, Clutch, Kagy, Sammy, and the numerous others that have made my skin a little thicker in my years here. If you can't take a joke on the internet, how can you take one in real life? ------------------ "He was under more balls than a midget hooker."-Bobby Hill visit www.swirve.com, coming January 20th, the top 10 films of 2000! and, http://www.geocities.com/clutch34_2000 for great Rocket insight by some of your fellow BBS posters!
