I don't know if anyone else mentioned the AR-15 round over penetration but do you want to risk hitting your neighbor's sleeping child with the bullets you shoot at robbers? A shotgun is the perfect home protection. Low penetration with a broader range of damage . Salt shot first, 4 rounds of buck and 4 slugs is my recipe.
Demented I know. *Sigh* Until I find Jesus I guess I will wait patiently at night on my back deck and chain smoke cigarettes until some unsuspecting girl scout troop wanders onto my property. 'God' is a proper noun I believe, since you're open to helpful tips. Not that it matters, it is a message board after all.
There's no bigger supporter of gun freedoms then me, but I honestly can't think of a good reason to have an AR15. I have a RockRiver .223, but I can't even make up a reason why you would need one, as far as hom protection is concerned.
I have a WW1 era Winchester 1897 12 ga Trench gun that has been restored. Looking to get a bayonet for it soon for the zombie apocalypse.
Even cooler that you think you can be judge, jury and executioner. I've never understood the bloodlust so many people have. I've had things stolen from me and while it pissed me the hell off but I've never wanted them to die bc of it. I understand if you feel the need to protect yourself and family in light of a dangerous situation but the flat out desire to take another persons life so nonchalantly speaks much louder volumes IMO. You're not the police.
I was thinking of getting a S&W governor. To me it seems like the ideal hand gun for protection. It shoots both shells and bullets. Honestly I'm a really bad shot so the shells make sence for me.
bro I'm guessing you don't have a family? You bring a very naive perspective to the table. If there's an intruder in the home, then you are legally allowed to be judge, jury and executioner.
You should get a chainsaw instead. If I were a robber, I'd be more afraid of a demented guy with a chainsaw than someone with a gun. In all seriousness though, why a rifle? I'd assume you'd want something small and portable where you can stash it somewhere. With a rifle you can't really stash it anywhere, nor is it as easy to mobilize than a handgun in the case that you need to use it.
Not to hurt your feelings, but the law says I can be the judge, jury, and executioner. Write your congressman.
I guarantee you according to your "scenario's" you would end up in jail. As stated by you, intruder fleeing on the sidewalk, and you shoot said fleeing person = you go to jail and deservedly so. Before you ask, I have a family with kids in the house. I choose to live my life not thinking at any moment someone is going to come in and harm my family. Im still waiting for peeps like you to answer if you go to the beach and bring shark repellant with you. Ye of most preparedness for the most grave of situations at all times.
Heh. Wll, I'm a self-described libertarian who advocates gun rights... and I think the pic in the OP was just asking for trouble. 'Home defense' doesn't entail that you're being attacked by a mobilized mercenary group. Just a burglar.
http://www.asecurelife.com/security-infographic Interesting site. Some focus points... 47% of home invasions occur in the South Less than 5% of stolen merchandise is ever recovered. A burgulary occured every 14.6 seconds in 2010 821,000 homes were burgularized in 2010 Why I take such an extreme stance on home invasions is not because of what they may steal, but because of what they may do. It seems at least weekly there is a story of home invaders, upon being discovered, will move to more drastic measures. A few weeks ago a lady home alone had 5 illegal immigrants break into her house and attempt to kidnap her and her son until she was able to reach for a gun hidden beside her bed. It's not about the property, it's about not knowing to what extent they will go to not be caught. What if the intruder has a warrant for their arrest? You think once they know you've seen their face, they're just going to run away and hope they dont get caught? I doubt it.
So what Hak34 is trying to say is that an AR is a bit much and that the OP should probably just go with a shotgun...like a Mossberg 590
We may never know, but I did clearly post the law previously. If you would like, you can look it up yourself and see you are justified to use deadly force in an attempted robbery. If they ran, I hopped in my car, chased them down, and shot them three miles away, you are probably right. And no, I don't like the ocean. Deep water gives me the creeps. And that is your right, I hope you never have to find out otherwise. Better to have and not need then to need and not have.
