Freak, You are so sweet. I said acquaintance on purpose because it is just someone I know about through another person -- not a friend or anything. Point was, if the burglar had not had a gun, he and his accomplice would be dead. He and the owner both had guns, so now two people will still die. Had neither of them had a gun, one would be in prison for robbery and the other would be home. Just an example of how being a gun owner can backfire. Which would you prefer? The robbery not taking place is not an option. Incidentally, I am not of the belief that people such as dc are bad or wrong for owning a gun, nor do I think real men hunters should not be allowed to have their fun, I am just saying it is not for me. I certainly do not see a reason for someone needing a machine gun, though unless it is to hunt communinsts. ------------------ Take an object. Do something to it. Do something else to it. " " " " "
No, thank you dc. I desperately needed to read a coherent argument for gun ownership & gun rights. Reading Roxran's post made me lazy and reminiscent of BK's post a few weeks ago about the marginal political wackos getting the biggest media attention. If you're even mildly open minded on the gun control issue, Roxran's idiocy pushes you to be a bit more close minded. ------------------
Getting back to the original topic. I wonder what percentage of gun shot deaths are drug related. I know that drug related crimes are largely responsible for our high prison population but are they responsible for a significant number of gun shot deaths? I dunno... On gun safety, I would imagine that future technology will improve gun safety. It's always tragic when a young child is accidentally killed because he stumbles across his parents gun. I'd like to see some type of fingerprint grip for hand guns. In other words, only the person's grip assigned to that gun could make the gun function. This would also help with the stolen guns problem. I'm sure this type of technology would dramatically lower the amount of accidental deaths every year. In addition to new technologies I'd also like to see some kind of 4/5 hour mandatory gun safety class for anyone who purchases a firearm. I don't think we should be selling firearms to people and then just sending them out the door without teaching them gun safety and general gun usage laws. ------------------ "Relax... kids swallow quarters all the time. Licensing users, 'fingerprint firing' such as Timing suggests and one other thing should cut down on the amount of gun violence: Having the gun stamp the bullet as it exits the weapon w/ a signature. If a weapon could point back to the gun firer, then it seems as if people would be less apt to commit crimes. It still wouldn't take care of bad parents, but it would take care of many of the problems attributed to guns. Too bad the NRA would never stand for such a brazen violation of one's rights to be able to shoot whomever they want to anonymously. ------------------
I believe they invisioned guns to kill animals, humans, glass, aluminum and paper. Today, guns just do it faster, further, and more accurate. ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
Not picking on you DD.... They might not have envisioned an AK-47, but I bet they wished those muskets would fire a littel faster ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness. And what is this? What this is ..is my 3 reasons on why I believe in owning guns. I am responsible. When you have tools/machines and use them irresponsibly, bad things happen. If you drive your car irresponsibly and kill people, should we outlaw cars? There are people who use their cars to intimidate and there people who have killed others with cars. In fact many people have died from automobiles. What's my point? It's IRRESPONSIBILTY that kills not the tool/machine. I can kill people with many, many tools and machines other than guns. If I am responsible with the guns I have. How is that a problem? I am sorry if I feel better with a gun in my home for self-defense (even though the gun may be under lock and key in a childproof stored gun cabinet). I am sorry if I like to hunt responsibly, with proper license and tags (which contribute to wildlife conservation by the way.) Only 56 years ago the United States was invaded! It's true Rocketman 95! How about the Jews? Don't you all wish they could have died fighting equipped with guns? I do. Now I realize the chances of us being invaded or some crazy man taking over our region is hardly ever going to happen...but you tell my Uncle who was stationed there this is never going to happen ever. My wish is to never use my guns ever at a person ever ever. I pray to GOD everyday that this is so. I am sorry if I want to be prepared..Actually I am not sorry! ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing! [This message has been edited by ROXRAN (edited February 28, 2001).]
I would further like to extend congratulations to dc sports for acknowledging the importance of safety, something I believe in greatly!!! ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing!
My intention is to not change minds. I simply stated my three reasons on why I feel owning a gun is important to me. I feel like no one should tell me that my guns will be taken away! I am a responsible gun owner who believes in compliance with the laws, safety, and above all..being responsible. your personal attack shows just how idiotic you are! ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing!
I'm pretty sure those sailors at Pearl Harbor were armed. ------------------ www.swirve.com...The reason Al Gore invented the internet.
RocksMillenium, Maybe I came across wrong.. my quote you are referring to is basically my stance that summarizes the belief I have in my cherished 2nd admendment. I did not literally mean what I said. However, I do feel passionate about the 2nd Amendment. ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing!
ROXRAN, no hard feelings. I was just taking your post to make a point to my friend TheFreak. I appreciate your extreme views as much as I appreciate those who want to ban guns fully. That's exactly what makes this country awesome! ------------------ www.swirve.com...The reason Al Gore invented the internet.
You must be half Democrat and half Republican, stupid with no class. ------------------ "Relax... kids swallow quarters all the time. If she craps out two dimes and a nickel then start worrying!" -Grumpier Old Men
Pretty much nailed it Timing. And to think it took TheFreak and Clutch four Austin Rocketball Association meetings to figure that out. Ass. ------------------ www.swirve.com...The reason Al Gore invented the internet.
Uhhhh, no ****! Let me ask you something Achebe: Who the Heeeeeeellllllllllll are you to question what I interpret as GOD - given rights?!?! ..as it stands, I feel GOD given rights is your right of free choice. It is something that both you and I have. In fact I would like to think that everyone has free choice. It can be Good or Evil. We all have that ability. All of us. What you decide to do and act is determined and predetermined on many things. You may not agree with my religion and that is fine, I may not agree with yours (btw I am Roman Catholic). But I will not say that your religious beliefs are wrong. Maybe I am wrong, but I believe GOD has given us all the ability to contribute to our fates and make choices. My choice is to be a responsible gun owner... ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing! [This message has been edited by ROXRAN (edited February 28, 2001).]
I generally consider people stupid with no class when they mock the deaths of servicemen at Pearl Harbor so I guess I'm fortunate it only took one of your posts to figure that out. ------------------ "Relax... kids swallow quarters all the time. If she craps out two dimes and a nickel then start worrying!" -Grumpier Old Men
I wasn't mocking the deaths at all. I'm assuming that ROXRAN, when he stated that the U.S. was invaded 56 years ago, was referring to Pearl Harbor. I just pointed out that they were in fact armed. Not sure how that was classless or stupid, unless he was referring to another invasion of U.S. soil that I'm forgetting. ------------------ www.swirve.com...The reason Al Gore invented the internet.
The United States hasn't been invaded by a foreign power since the War of 1812. ------------------ The Rockets will be the NBA champions. Believe.
