Actually, I believe the purpose was to have state militias, to protect the states from the Feds.

    Gun ownership:

Most likely the gun will never be used for any purpose other than recreational

The next most likely outcome is that it will result in an accident

Followed by your gun being stolen

Lastly actually using it for self-protection

I certainly think we should be allowed to own handguns, shotguns, and rifles for home protection & hunting, but we need to cut down on the number of weapons made available to the general public. Crazies and criminals will always be able to get a gun, but it is far too easy right now.

I should be able to buy a handgun. I should not be able to buy an assault rifle.

Not a single non-military citizen has use for a semi-automatic assault rifle with 500+ rounds. There is no argument to be made here.

    No more automatic rifles.

Limits on numbers of guns owned.

Go out there and try to buy a ton of fertilizer and see what happens.

No matter how you slice the gun debate, I yet have heard a single valid argument for keeping ownership of assault rifles legal.

Just blame the crazy people and bad people. What if people with clean record, mentally and socially, decide to do bad things and get guns?

Just curious, how many gun owners here have ever used guns to protect themselves and loved ones in the past? I haven't.

My wife asked me this morning: where's my right to go see a movie without wondering if some dude in the next row is packing advanced military weaponry as a side order to his mental problems?

I told her that's not in the constitution.

Keep in mind that Saddam armed almost every Iraqi family with a Kalishnikov and the Iraqis utterly failed in stopping a US invasion or on their own overthrowing Saddam. Further most of the US soldiers killed by Iraqi insurgents isn't through small arms but through IED's most of which are rigged up using heavy munitions left over from Saddam's army.

Yeah, apparently my right to life and the pursuit of happiness is trumped by the right to carry a gun.

~65% from what I found and that makes sense considering bombs are way more effective at killing people and are very easy to make (OKC). firearms still had their place

If you'll just accept pursuing happiness with a concealed semiautomatic sidearm, I think it just might work!
