why ia everyone posting pics of electric when he wants an acoustic?

Acoustic is not some torture device that no one can learn on. Geez guys there is nothing wrong with an acoustic.

One of my senior co-workers is pretty much a pro on guitar, played session work for Mo-Town back in the day, etc. I was pondering this decision a while back and was talking about getting a cheapo acoustic to learn on. He HIGHLY advised against it as he said I'd soon get frustrated and bored with it. He talked me into investing into something I wouldn't want to put down.

I now have a PRS semi hollow that my girlfriend bought for me. This thing is nothing but beauty. I believe it was bought for around $800.00 (which means it's an import) but I could be wrong. It's so worth it!

    seagull is a good suggestion.
i have a baby taylor that is surprisingly good, and it was affordable.
i really like the sound of ibanez acoustics - my hands are on the smaller side, so the necks on these are easier to play on for me.

but really, go to a guitar center, try the sounds and feel for these, and then just go shopping to find the cheapest deal elsewhere, because it's likely you won't find it cheap at guitar center.

I have wanted a PRS for 20 years and just never had that much laying around to get myself one.

I would agree with those saying don't buy a cheapie. You will hate the action (height/difficulty of getting strings down between the frets) and the sound will discourage you, not to mention intonation issues. I know, blah blah, but these things matter when you get good enough to decide "This is for me" or "Man this thing sucks therefore I suck and so I quit".

I think choosing acoustic over electric first is good if you get the right guitar, as it's slightly tougher to play, which in the long run will make you better. Also, you don't need power to play, and all that amp / effects crap doesn't matter (yet :D )

Here is a decent article on What to look for in an Acoustic Guitar.
I don't think it recommends brands, but does explain what makes for a good basic guitar.
