Guitar Hero is fun. Real guitar is fun. I don't really see a disconnect there. Did mixed martial artists get snippy about Mortal Kombat?
no I hadnt, but Ill see if I cant track down a copy. Hard rock has always meant a great deal to me, and I enjoy reading\seeing media devoted to it. As I type this, the end credits are rolling on The Decline of Western Civlization Part 2 : The Metal Years (it was on IFC yesterday and I DVRed it) , probably one of my favorite documentaries ever. highly recommended for sheer comedic value and some great candid behind the scenes stuff on the 80s LA Rock\Metal scene
I've actually seen it. There are some great things in there. Absolutely hilarious, and some a little sad, and plenty that are bizarre mainly because the people are so unselfconcious about a lot of some their antics. I was never a true metal fan(never had anything against it either), but I enjoyed that documentary, and Klosterman's book is funny, and his "defense" of metal from an almost scholarly point of view was very entertaining.
I have a Guitar Hero question. I recently played on my sister-in-law's game (GH2 and Rock the 80's) and fell in love with the game. But the high cost of the game and the guitar (plus another guitar if you want 2 player) is making me wary. Were I to buy a copy of GH2 with a guitar, would that same guitar work on GH and GH3 as well (PS2 versions)?

Interesting....although I think I was just focusing on listening to the Rage song, "Killing in the Name Of."
Hey I have a great idea why don't I create a trombone shaped controller and use that the buttons can go where the valves go and you can work the slide instead of a strum bar. Seriously, who wants to lift their turntable up in the middle of a song to activate the star power. The guy missed several notes because of that.
Youtube has ruined this game. I can't help but feel like the biggest loser thinking I was good at Guitar Hero and ending up watching a 9 year old beat through the fire and the flames expert.
Copy and pasted the "embed". <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ttYbvPUS9-0&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ttYbvPUS9-0&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
As a musician (well, drummer... ), I've always looked down my nose at this game and other like it. But I played it for the first time over the holidays and HOLY **** I LOVE it. I loved playin' me some Foghat! Such a blast!
bought it for Wii on Friday...veged out last night after the kids and wife fell asleep. what a great freaking game!
Why? I graduated with a degree in percussion and I'm absolutely in love with the drums on Rock Band. It pisses me off at times (how can blue be both a tom and a cymbal? Come on! /GOB), but it's a blast -- especially with friends. Ima, pick up Rock Band.
I guess I will believe you but what I saw a Fry's look dumb. I was with my brother who is a very good drummer and we were both just laughing. I hope you are telling me there is more to what I saw.
Does it compare to playing real drums on a real stage in front of a real crowd? Hell no. Is it supposed to? No. It's cheesy, but it's fun. A lot of fun.
I realize that. My brother loves Guitar Hero. The drums just looked weak in comparison. I think I was told that the pads are loud too.
