This game pisses me off, and I will tell you why. We were making a game called Johnny Whatever - Pics and Vids here - select tabs at top and in discussions with MTV and others. Just when we were about to sign a $10 million dollar deal to make the game in 2004 we were bought by Gizmondo, and we switched to hand held only. Well, MTV had our demo & took a small portion of it, the Karaoke mode in the Krash Klub - and made Guitar hero. It is nearly IDENTICAL to our game. However because we sold out to Gizmondo we could not sue them, only Gizmondo could, and they didn't care. Now, flash forward 2 years, and MTV called this week to talk about resurrecting our concept, so all could end well, but it sucks to have your best ideas stolen. However, Guitar Hero was less than 10% of what we are trying to do...we have a GTA style of city where every area has it's own type of Music and you run around playing various riffs and getting power ups and fighting the evil robotic regime trying to rescue your band mates and save the soul of a nation, not with guns and bombs, but with Rock and roll. Anyway, if we do this deal with MTV for City of Rock (Johnny name still tied up in Gizmondo bankruptcy) all will be forgiven. Rant over ! DD
ARGH....again part of Johnny Whatever, Rythmn, bass, drums, lead......and a studio portion for you to lay down tracks with vocals... GRRRRR - anger rising !! DD
Sold to ClutchCityReturns for $50.00. First time I've met another Clutchfans member (knowing that he was a member).
Make a thread. We have to see if it's a phenomenon. A_3PO, thanks again for the transaction. I've already played through the game completely on the first 2 difficulties, so I think that qualifies me to be committed. It might actually be too much fun, if that's possible.
what would be cool is if you could load your own mp3's and the game would analyise them and you could jam to your own tunes. looks like fun though.
Exactly, and share them with friends.......all part of Johnny Whatever. And Miguel - No, the difference was that you did not need a special guitar to play Johnny just a regular controller, though I have a mockup of a guitar for special orders. Again all 2 years before MTV stole our idea and made Guitar hero. DD
I thought MTV came along later in the Guitar Hero process? GH was developed by Harmonix and published by Red Octane, but Harmonix has been making rhythm-based games for a while, I think their first was Frequency or Amplitude back in 2001, IIRC.
Sorry DaDa, but that sounds like the dumbest video game idea ever. What's next, a game about a plumber that runs around stomping on turtles and eating mushrooms that make him grow to twice his size?
That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. I thought MTV just helped with promoting the game when it came out (late 2005 IIRC), or something like that; I didn't think they actually had a hand in developing it.
DaDa; The game sounds cool in concept, but I wouldn't really say MTV "stole" your idea. Like Rokkit said, Harmonix, who developed the game, has been doing Rhythm based games since 2002-2003, maybe earlier, but the two that I've played are Frequency and Amplitude. I've had both right since they came out, and Science Genius Girl has been etched into my soul by Frequency. I'm good enough to get by, but it's a fun game. I'll eventually get Guitar Hero, once I figure out how my finances are after I pick up Madden this week.
They certainly did, they took our demo to Harmonix and showed them, heck the background of the game is almost IDENTICAL to ours. Then Harmonix took their engine and our karaoke concept and made the game in 7 months. Look, it happens all the time in our industry. I would be willing to let you guys play the demo for yourselves, all you need is an X-box controller (the original) and a USB connector which I can provide a link for....would cost you around $5 to order it and I will provide a download link for the demo, and you guys be the judge. And RM Tex, if after you play it, you don't think it is cool....I will be shocked....it is a game that my wife loves, and my 2 sons do to...it is totally addicting and you can freeform as you run around. DD
Agreed. I had heard of it a looong time ago but I never even gave it a second look. Then I played it at Walmart and it was so damn fun. Also, IGN gave it a 9.2 and the user rating is 9.5 (over 1150 of them, IIRC). You can think it's gay if you want, but you can rest assured that you'll be in the minority. JUST TRY IT.
