MoBalls and rH - yeah, my original plan was to wait a couple of years on the electric (*sounds of Dads laughing*). But he loves playing his guitar so much that I am not too concerned that this will be a passing fad ... I think he has the fever. And he is *threatening* to buy his own guitar - he has some cash from mowing the lawn and good grades (I pay for straight A report cards ). Thats awesome! He looks like he has some financial skills and a good head on his little shoulders. Let him play!
Again, thanks for the responses. I've read up on the Fender Bullett and it sounds like a great amp for a beginner. And it has a headphone jack which sounds real good to parents, siblings and neighbors. subtomic - I will do that but I need to go by the shop to get an accurate description for you. I don't think the guy I need to talk to (Jimmy) is there today, but I will try to post the info later. As an aside, I am definitely leaning towards making him buy his own gear. Getting the electric now is way ahead of the *parental schedule* and he is being very persistent and borderline pain in the ass about it. If he works diligently around the house and keeps his grades up, he could have enough scratch for a Squier Affinity Stat and Fender Bullett by Christmas. Builds character. Thats gonna be my story, anyway.
I would appreciate your opinion, although to be honest it is a bit much pricewise. It is a Korean made Strat that is bright red w/ white pickguard (?). I don't know what the configuration of the pickups is, but it is the only one like it in the shop. For what its worth, it was hanging on the rear wall (opposite Shepard), third from the right. Thanks.
