Has anyone prepurchase it? If you have and have access to this weekend Beta event, could you post in this thread later if it's worth getting?
Diablo3 is May 15th, and I think GW2 will be Q3 or Q4 As big of a Blizzard Fanboy as I am, I think Diablo 3 won't be able to hold GW2's jock strap... the entire development of Diablo 3 beta has been trying to mimic GW2, even to go so far as to add a dedicated heal(potion) I have high hopes for GW2, nothing has enticed me like this since the WoW beta in 2004.
Fridge and pantry stocked, bathrom full of toilet paper, doorbell and phone disabled, isolation from the outside world... yep all set. xD This is going to be a very nerdy weekend.
Aren't Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2 two entirely different games? Diablo 3 is a fast-paced hack and slash loot game. Guild Wars 2 is an MMO.
Apart from having to go club tomorrow, all the other times are going to be dedicated to playing my ****ing pvpppppp
I was on the fence, but decided to go ahead and pre-order since I am sure I will get it eventually. I think Guild Wars 2 is set for the end of June release, and Diablo 2 for May 15.
I'm lookling forward to this game for so long. GW1 was amazing. And now they added the Norns and snowleopards, I'm in.
Yes, but they both have the potential to eat up large chunks of your free time and you can't play both at the same time. So even though they are different enough for me to want both, I do understand how someone could decide to go with just one of them for now, since the other is going to sit unused once they have both been released. Fortunately for me there will be a month or so of Diablo 3 time before that is even an issue.
They're both free to play, and GW2 will really test the foundation of WoW, unlike other predecessors who try to make a better 'WoW', GW2 has flipped the whole genre, this is a revolution, instead of evolution no holy trinity, gone are the days of waiting for a tank or healer, so in theory, the play style is very much similar to a multiplayer aRPG Blizzard does not have anything in the schedule to counter the growing interest of GW2 except Diablo3, so they're shaping Diablo3 to be a formidable foe, which I admire, but I feel it'll come up short. Diablo3 will make Blizzard a lot of money, but I doubt the it has the legs to last a decade like Diablo2. short answer, yes, they're not the same, but in the bigger picture, they're the most anticipated PC gaming titles of the year and they're both going to go to war for a sustaining player base
From the streams I'm watching this game looks pretty underwhelming. Any opinions from you guys that are actually playing the beta?
oh wow, their artist direction during the background lore cinematic is really good i used to think it needs to look super real, like blizzard's cinematics, but their direction is just amazing
I played quite a bit and it was fun. Not perfect though. Good things off the top of my head: The world is really big, the cities feel like more realistic cities than your typical MMO, with their size and scale. Lots of places to explore. I would guess the human city is about 3-4 times the size of a WoW city like Orgrimmar, maybe bigger when you include all the buildings you can go inside. You can fast travel to different points once you have been there once though. Voice acting including NPCs you walk past talking to each other is a cool touch, though some of the quality of the voice acting is not that great. Graphics are good if not spectacular at max of what the beta offered. Beta was DX9 and I didn't see an option to change to dx11, and I'm not sure if you can change that or not. The different skill combinations that open up with different weapons and offhands is cool. Using different weapons makes a huge difference in how the character plays. Banks are shared between all your characters on your account. Personalized story lines similar to Star Wars The Old Republic gives replay value. You can send stuff to the AH and buy from the AH as well as check mail while you are in the field. Every quest is shared with everyone around you as are any kills without being in a party with them. No such thing as kill stealing in PvE, if you help someone you will get rewarded. You also get rewards for rezzing dead players whether they are partied with you or not. In the limited time I played over the weekend I didn't see a clear bonus to partying other than the private chat channel. There are always new world event quests going on. Alot of them are fairly similar, like defend the outpost from attacking monsters, or escort the merchant, or collect items from the surrounding area, but since they are all group efforts without the need to party up it makes it easy to jump in or leave as you want. It wasn't immediately clear exactly what happens if an event fails, but it looks like the most common effect was the inability to fast travel or respawn at that location. There is a large amount of character customization both in background and in actual looks. Some negatives: Melee combat seems MUCH more difficult than ranged in PvE. Mobs and quests that are rated as lower level than your character can have abilities that one shot your character, or close to it. There is a dodge ability, but it was extremely difficult for me to tell if there was some sort of sign I was missing on when to use it. Especially when there are a dozen other players and mobs on the screen at the same time and all their spell effects going off. Playing as the theif and the fighter resulted in many more deaths than any MMO I can remember since the first Final Fantasy online from levels 1-5. Things got better for the theif when I used a bow and/or pistols. I played the Necro the longest and it seemed easier overall, but this is a game that has a high death toll for new players at least. If there are too many people in the zone, they put you into an overflow zone. The problem is my party member and I couldn't find a way to get to the same zone. It wasn't always clear where you should go next to level up. Your personal story line quest would often have a one plus level gap from the end of one personal quest to the recommended level for the next and there were times I would complete all the recommended level stuff that was visible on the map and still be a long ways from the level recommended for the next area. As a necro I was able to take stuff that was a level or 2 above me as long as it wasn't a group without dieing too much, but as a melee class even lower level mobs and quests could be frustratingly deadly. I didn't make time to PvP, though it seems that everyone who did in the area I was playing really loved it. I'll probably focus on it more next beta weekend whenever that is. I only tried out 3 of the classes, so I will probably try some new ones next time. Only 3 of the races were available to test.
Thank you to all the responses. Hopefully the next beta weekend event is coming soon because i really want to play it now. I got the standard edition ($60), CE is a bit too much for me.
