Before people rip my head off, i don't see us getting our center of the future out of this draft unless we can move into the top 6. After Kanter and Valanciunas, i don't see a franchise center. I do, however, see a lot of good wing players, and so that's where i think we'll focus if we can't move up. I could also see Bud being moved at some point, so depth at that position will likely not be a bad thing.

#14 - it's a good year for wing players and there figures to be a couple good ones around the 14th pick. Assuming there's no way Leonard dropps this far, the pick is Singleton (he gets the nod over Hamilton because he has the ability to be a lock-down defender at the next level ...and as someone else pointed out, Hamilton is a Bud clone).

#23 - Bertans is BPA; many say he's the best shooter in Europe right now (he gets the nod over Honeycutt because Morey loves Euros)

#38 - Julyan Stone (would be nice to have a PG with size)

Go for bust. We have enough role players who we can only trade for other role players. Enough of picking 14-16.

    Compliments of http://www.nbadraft.net/high-riskreward-picks

Scenario one Rank these 4 bad boys (biggger is better) and take the higher one with the higher pick.

14 Biyombo or Jeremy Tyler. or Marshon Brooks if Biyombo and Tyler are both gone unlikely with Tyler.

23 If any of the #14's above are left take him. If none take Selby or the best big potentialled Euro

38 selby or best big potentialled euro left

    Scenario two.

Trade Scola, Martin whoever, but not Kyle for next year picks. Draft and trade for whatever athletic big risk-big reward guys we can get. Let Kyle run up and down with a team that attempts to win games 140 to 135. We get a high lottery pick next year and our superstar and hopefully super stars. Kevin Mchale and an extra large staff can train the guys like college freshman since most have to learn the game beside running and dunking.

Scenario three. Fake season long injuries to Kyle, Scola, Hayes, Martin and Yao (that won't be hard) and go for a top pick.

That would be a good trade for us, big Al is only 26, and averaged almost 10 rebounds and 2 blocks a game last year. He could anchor the middle of a zone with his 7' 2.5" wingspan and 9' 2.5" standing reach.

Then trade Scola and filler for Iggy, and we would have a formidable starting five.

With this trade, Utah would be free to pick Kanter and Jimmer with the #3 and #12 picks.

I agree good trade for us. If I was UTAH I would not make that trade. That would be bringing too many new unproven players in one year, except for Brad Miller who is just old. With Utah's roster and so many new faces they would have to drop some players. What they need is stronger backcourt and a bigger powerfoward.

Correction: The bigger power forward and better backcourt player they can get without trading Al Jefferson.

    1) The Rockets swing a blindside trade (either for a player or getting rid of Brad Miller) and come away with only one draft selection

    2) The Rockets (possibly trade up) select Jonas Valanciunas with the understanding that he will not come over for at least a year, otherwise taking on project bigs or SFs (Biyombo, Benson, Vucevic, Mirotic).

    3) The Rockets swing a major trade to land Kanter

    Here's a farfetched one:

Cleveland actually takes Enes Kanter number one like some rumors have suggested. Minnesota grabs Irving at 2 but can't keep him because they already have Rubio coming over. They trade him to Houston for our two first round draft picks. Houston trades Lowry, and Scola to LA, LA trades Bynum and Walton's contract to Minn. and Minn. sends back Beasley to LA. LA also sends us their two second rounders. Also, Minn. sends us Darko, which everyone hates and says is a waste, but McHale magically transforms his career and he ends up being the Marc Gasol of the package, at least for a year and half, and then he goes back to being a lazy malcontent and everyone who initially hated him on clutchfans says I told you so (don't flame me for not using the trade checker, I'm too lazy right now).

Houston gets: Darko, Irving, 2 second rounders
Houston Loses: Lowry, Scola, 2 first rounders

    LA gets: Lowry, Scola, Beasley
LA loses: Bynum, Walton, 2 second rounders

Minn. gets: Bynum, Walton, 2 first rounders
    Minn. loses: Irving, Darko, Beasley

    More Likely:

Houston trades their 14th pick for Philadelphia's 16th pick and their 50th pick, then grabs Tyler Honeycutt at 16, reach for Jeremy Tyler at 24, trade the 38th pick for a future second rounder next year, and take a Euro with a dicey contract buyout situation at 50.

    Most Likely:

Houston really aggressively tries to move but no one is biting. We draft 3 players that seem like reaches but Morey insists they were really high on his board. They turn out better than expected and make solid contributions even though they are all undersized. Next year we hope to combine them in a trade for a superstar.

    to the OP

Kevin Martin and Al Jefferson would be so freaking nasty. will probably never happen, but if it did rockets would be a instant playoff team in the west.

All Jefferson needs to learn is how to draw more contact instead of shying away, and martin could be that person to help him make that transition.

A pipe dream, but a very wet pipe dream.

It may take K-Mart to get Jefferson.

I remember last year Doug Gottlieb said that Balbay's is one of the best defensive PG's he's ever seen. : )

Wouldn't mind taking a FA flyer on him now that Ish Smith is gone.

I don't think this qualifies as a guess, but the Rockets should move up only if they see a potential star and only if they can do so without giving up KM or their unprotected 2012 pick.

I think Morey's going to land that #2 pick and Minny's 2012 #1 (from Utah) by giving up Scola, Buddinger, this year's #14 and #23 picks and next year's #1.

    After that deal...

    #2: Derrick Williams
    2nd round: Charles Jenkins
