I love the steaks in Spanish restaurants. Seafood Paella is also one of my favorites.

Losing, Hardly, I smashed these guys up to the point where they are all upset! I've taken the unpopular position and once again out-debated the self-righteous!

I think I've proven my point very clearly and the other side can only come up with defensive posturing and weak rationalizations to defend their unreality.

Where in the hell did this come from, real_egal? If you can't stand the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen, bro. It's D&D... monkeys flinging poo at each other. Don't like poo? Duck and cover. Don't like what you read in here? No one is making you read the forum.

This is exactly why I have that stupid Keep D&D Civil at the bottom of my posts in D&D, typing each and every one, to try and remind everyone, myself included, to cut down on the insults and crap like that. There are many excellent posts in the threads about Japan/China, etc. To make a broad statement like that is not helpful, and it is a bit insulting to those who have spent time trying to make meaningful posts, and for those who hope to learn something from the experience. In my opinion.

real_egal thinks people are challenging China's rights to complain about the Japanese, so he is drawing a parallel to the D&D. Of course, no one has said China can't complain about anything, but it is always easier to argue against a straw man.

LOL, you really can talk tough on the internet (clap, clap, clap!). Anyway, we are back to the topic of perception here. I think it's stupid to guess whether the other people are upset or not by reading what they typed on your monitor. Everyday I see guys swearing at other people in the online virtual world while joking around and having fun with his buddies in the school computer lab. Perception ... reality.. very interesting concepts. :)

Some people, including you, just think it is wrong for Chinese to complain about shrine visits, right?

Nothing. I was reacting to his/her comment about shutting down D&D. I realize now that it was apparently a joke, but if you haven't been paying attention the last few years, the subject has come up in a serious way more than once, and primarily because some folks were being so, for want of a better word, uncivil. Here's an example:

    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=116957&page=32&pp=20

That's unacceptable by the mods, just like slurs against Chinese members would be. I won't give an example, but I'm sure you can think of one or two, michecon. Sometimes people think some of us are overly sensitive about such things, but if someone reports it to the mods, and it gets the mods bent out of shape, and causes them to have to spend some time trying to "civilize," this place, when they'd rather be spending their time in GARM, or laughing about a thread in Hangout entitled, Do You Pee in the Shower?? ;)

Some of us really enjoy the discussions here, so some of us just try and keep the place around by doing what we can, when we aren't busy giving someone a hard time ourselves, lol! :D

Chances are he didn't know "Jap" is offensive and thought it is just a shortwriting of Japanese. Not everyone is old enough to know how the word "Jap" was used in WWII.

If we can forgive Steve Kerr, a native english speaking american, for saying "chinaman", we sure can forgive some immigrants for saying "Jap" unintentionally, cannot we?

I don't think that way, but I have been reading that for a week. If you can't see, don't ASSUME that I imagined it. Generalization is always dangerous for being wrong. So, before you dig up New Yorker's posts, and find those quotes like "Chinese people should shut up", please don't conclude that "of course no one has said ...".

Everyone is more or less of a hypocrite, but the funny thing is that one of the biggest ones whinned about hypocrisy from an entire ethnic group at least 20 times in a single thread.

To New Yorker, you are absolutely right that Chinese are hypocrites. If you decide, before anyone becomes a Saint, he/she is not allowed to criticise or complain about anything, maybe all Chinese should shut up indeed. Otherwise, you will hijack every single thread with your copy and paste "what about CR and GLF? so you shut up". However, applying your own logic, why should anyone ever open his/her mouth, including the "righteous" yourself? Why should people ever have any conversation at all? Yes, we've established that Chinese are hypocrites, and Japanese officials are denying horrible past war crimes. Do you agree? If yes, let's move on. Next time, if you want to discuss any matter, please offer your opinion, and stop repeating the truth again and again that Chinese are hypocrites, because I don't think that would be relevant to every single discussion universally.

To Deckcard, sorry about the confusion caused by my quick comment and run. I certainly enjoyed the forum for the past few years, and I learned a great deal here as well. However, I can see some uncomfortable trend here. It is NOT ok to insult a person here, but it is OK to insult a group of people, be it ethnic, or religious; it is NOT ok to attack a race, but it is OK to attack a country and its people as a whole. Please correct me if I am wrong. If someone's posts were called "moronic", he/she will whine about personal attack; however, if that person calls others "Chinese Mafia", you won't see any outrage here.

My name was somehow luckily mentioned a couple of times in these 3 China related threads, and someone accused me of throwing personal attacks all the time. I asked that person to quote me just ONCE, where I attacked ANYONE personally, I was told that he CAN'T and WON'T back himself up, but still accused me of not man enough to own up to it, and requested me to STAY ON TOPIC of discussion. You see, that's how the debating atomosphere in some of those threads are. I do rant a lot, if I am really frustrated by anything illogical, but not personal attacks. I am a simple technology guy, so I am a firm believer of simple logic. I absolutely cannot stand illogical statements. I really want to seek for advices from you or FB or any other senior members here. I realize that sometimes you get frustrated with some discussions as well. What would you do? Repeating the same simple facts over and over again, or just walk away? By walking away, would you be worried that lies repeated enough times, they might somehow become "truth" to others not so well informed? By continuing "debating" in vain, you can't really achieve anything either. What would you do?

^^ real_egal, I feel the same way as you do. Although I have only posted on D&D for a few days, I've seen some of the weird things you mentioned above. I guess the solution is not to take the debate too seriously, and not to take certain people serious at all. Remember this, our debates on this forum are not gonna change anything. If you can influence a few people's understanding on certain topics then it is great. But don't expect too much.

Deckard may not like to hear it, but I think he is a bit too alergic to china-defenders but he doesn't mind china-bashers at all. Oh well, everyone is biased.

Dude, you are upset. You are being emotional and not thinking rationally. The descriptions I used on you and your posts are just about right. You should thank me for calling you out.

Thank you? Are you kidding me?
