The personal insults happened when you questioned my reading comprehension and pretended I couldn't read. You did this before and AFTER I posted a direct quote from the article backing up my assertion.

Then later you asserted that it was beneath your intelligence to carry on a discussion with me, posted patronizingly that you were 'teaching' me. All of that is insulting, and I didn't start out doing anything close to that to you.

Amazing how someone who always criticize others' English have so poor reading skill.

China is moving from wrong to neutral but Japanese are moving from right to neutral. The trend of China is to more honest and more objective view of history. The trend of Japan is to less honest and less objective view of history.

If you can see it, you force people to brand you as a troll (although a lot of people already see enough of you to make that conclusion).

I just didn't want to be accused of arguing something I wasn't. I don't doubt some people will argue they are the same.

I also would never defend Japan's re-writing their own textbooks. The Japanese gave my own mother-in-law a poisoned organe when she was a little girl in occupied Korea. Luckily she didn't die from it, but many did. I have story after story of people who suffered under the Japanese occupation. I am not defending anything the Japanese are doing.

My personal experience is that when I was in China back then, my classmates and I knew to various extent that we were force-fed with some kind of Commie propaganda, but we were eager to learn alternative views/news from different sources. My observation here is American kids are more brainwashed than they realize (if they realize at all), especially on the world events and history.

I wonder if they take this approach because they often get questioned on their English skills or comprehension skills in life - so it's there way of "getting even" in a sort of passive aggressive way.

Funny how it's only micheon, you, wnes, that are branding me a troll - all of you being the gang of chinese trolls....attacking people personally for debating subjects.

By the way, I think you just have communication issues in general. If you say it's ok for China not to deal with it's touchy past then why not Japan? Hyprocrisy in my book!

I would call on you to end you personal assult and stick to the debate. C'mon guys, be a better man....have some manners, be gentleman - show us all that you don't have to resort to name calling and condescending language in order to defend your homeland!!!!

I am calm. He/she asked me to show him/her where he/she was insulting toward me. I was complying with his/her request.

I deally it would lead to better discussion, if it was an earnest attempt to see how I would be insulte by some of the things posted by micheon.

The thing is the way you started the thread, or the lack of your explanation on how you view these two things together, misled people. Of course, trolls like NewYorker hijacked your thread and turn it into bashing practice. When he cheered you on and took it to extrem, you weren't differentiating yourself from the troll. That might have make people think you agreed with him on these two things are the sam.

I didn't start this thread. I didn't even come in it until after a couple of pages had already been going.

I agree with you on that. We always wanted to know what's it like over there in other countries, and what the others say about that. You learn one capability in China early, to read newspapers between the lines. I guess that was part of the reason I went abroad to study. Still, with all the intention to learn different versions, some of the propaganda were effective. However, as I asked in the shrine visit thread. I know lots of oversea Chinese gathered information and learned history in different versions. How many Westerns actually know the PRC version. I also asked, if some of them never know anything about it, how could one just dismiss it as lies. If some of them are informed about different versions, I would be very interesting to listen to their takes.

I'm sorry. I don't know about who's actually defensive. None of what you spinned has made your assertions true. Nor is the claim in quotes that I raised reading comprehension mistake possibility. Please note I didn't say you don't have reading comprehension skills, I raise it as a possibility since you can't seem to connect the facts with your assertions. (Gee, weren't Chinese posters often being said of sensitive?)

I was frustrated that after I repeated highlighted quotes in the article, you still want to hold on to your none-factual claim. If me raising the possibility of reading error hurt your feelings, I apoligize. Please do understand, I'm much used to academic precisions.

You do hand out definition of "omit" and try to spin it your way again. Looking back, my languange was a bit harsh after you called me and others "defensive" since I don't think that's solicited. However frustrated I was of your inability to accept basic facts, If me not arguing with you is insulting to you, I do apologize.

I'd much rather prefer a discussion where's no prejudice and name calling, and basic established facts can be accepted.

Harvard Prof. Ross Terrill's Mao biography - a quite honest book - has been best seller in China, and reprinted recently. Jung Chang's Mao book - highly biased one - was promoted by Bush and White House News conference.

This argument is funny considering how similar the new Chinease teaching of history is to how it is taught in the US.

    Both have mandatory govenment schooling.
Both de-emphasize the bad things the countries have done in the past.
Both de-emphasize learning any useful history altogether.
Both have propaganda and an agenda.

Why is this. An educated populous is dangerous to the state. Controlling education allows the state to indoctrinate its citizens. When the populous does not know the past they are less able to influence the future.

See, it just shows how confusing it can be. Some times it is hard to track who post what.

Serious NewYorker, I've never been personal with you despite your attempt to attack me personally everywhere (like in your judge-a-person thread). I guess I just don't take you THAT seriously.

If you want me to provide a definition of troll along with quotes of your own to see why I called you a troll in another thread, I can.
