Sucks to hear that, dude. I remember seeing a jeep on blocks when I went to my friend's apt a while back. They had stole the tires while the owner was out of town.
Damn...that sux...hope they find the perp, but odds are they won't...I guess it's silly to think of getting locks on factory wheels, but maybe not...
Not at all. There's plenty of a market for factory rims. Happened to my buddie's Maxima as well a couple years back.
Well, I live in a apartment, and I parked near a dumpster, and somehow, they left my edge on two red blocks.
Thieves carry their own tools. It wouldn't do to want to bust into a house and have to first steal/find something in order to do so.
Is the Edge the suv with the panaramic roof you know the commericial with the girl that looks like she's high but she's not really high she's just amazed at the view and then her friends are like yo can we get you something to eat and she snaps out of it? Yeah. Looks like a nice car.
Sorry. Which apt complex in North Shore? We're looking at apartments right now, so I'll be sure to skip that one. lol
I put them on all my wheels and even stock ones, I'm in the city far too often.. They can be broken off with a hammered on socket, but it's not worth a thief's time.. Your best bet is going to file with insurance or try to buy new after market ones out of pocket.. If it were me I would try to see what I could get a new set with tires for on e-bay.. LINK 1 LINK 2
Go to Discount Tire if you're in Houston. Get a wheel + tire set and ask for wheel locks. I got an entire set from them a few years back for one of my cars for $1000 (19" Enkei's, Cooper AS performance tires). It's unfortunate that this happened to you, but there's nothing you can do about it now other than getting a new set for your car.
Dude, you just got an excuse to get some badass wheels on your suv. Don't feel too bad, your ride will be pimped out.
Same thing happened to me when I lived in a condo on Westheimer. My neighbor called me saying my car was on blocks. I had JUST got new tires. I got wheel locks the next day along with a new set of tires and rims. They tried to come back and steal those a week later. They couldn't so they got mad and slashed one of the tires. Later there ended up being an epidemic of tires and wheels getting stolen. They ended up tracking it down to a house off 290 with 2 families of illegals. Seems that the younger punks in the house were stealing, bringing stuff to the house and re-selling it. But the parents "had no idea they were dealing stolen property." So when you get new tires, get the wheel locks. It is worth it.
I've heard of this happening so many times right after somebody buys a new car that I'm convinced it's a racket run by somebody working for the dealership.
It seems like it would take a long time to steal all four wheels, unless it was some pit crew that did the stealing.
Same thing happened to my neighbors earlier this year. They got a new car and two days later it was on bricks.
5 to 10 mins. tops... if not under 5 mins. for that kind of theft. 2 guys with a 2-ton hydraulic jack each, a 4-way tire tool each and a screwdriver to pop the lug cover, and 1 spotter to lookout for any traffic. A pick-up bed... Jack up front end, place block... one guy on each side, leave jack to help stabilize... pop all five lug nuts first, then spin the 4-way 5 times -front's off Jack up the back end, place block... guy on each side, leave jack until done... pop all five lug nuts first, then spin the 4-way 5 times -back's off Let pressure off both jack slowly... leaving car fully on blocks (at a lower height than would allow for the rims and tires to fit... Roll tires to the truck bed... throw them in... And gone. No witnesses at 3 AM in the big city. (Had it happen to me... and sort of observed it before too... from a distance.) BTW- Thieves with experience own several different rim "lock" keys... they invest in every style and keep them in a bag... style changes, they buy a set for $25-$50 bucks... no sweat for some rims they can sell to a junk yard or parts house for $300 cash, saying they came off their mom's car.
K, guys, found out that my insurance is going to cover all this, so, its settled initially. I feel so much better. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I will be more carefull next time, i guess this serves as a warning for everyone else also. Tim
Thats North Shore for you... I lived in North Shore/East Houston my whole life up until last year. Everybody thought I lived in the ghetto, but to me I didn't think so. Do I think its gotten worse than it did before? yea, but beats living in alot of other areas in the city. Its good to hear you insurance covered, otherwise, I'd imagine it would've been a b**** to deal with.
