Morey is thinking about 2 types of moves. Small moves and big moves. Like every other GM in the league. This guy has NO major trades to his name and until he expedites the NO from that statement. We are looking at a lottery pick and hoping the goop they put on Yaos bones can defy his bodys pressure on his feet.
Yea, I agree with Ron in retrospect I guess. Pretty big. Im talking the next level though. As well, the Artest trade panned out poorly for us if your looking at the big picture.
So... Bobby Jackson and Donte Greene was going to get the team to the 2nd round? It's one year, but finally getting over that hump seems pretty big to me. Certainly Yao Ming thought so. All that the team gave away a couple of low first rounders (Greene, and what turned out to me Omri Cassipi) and an expiring contract. Greene's spot essentially got filled by Von Wafer, who survived the last cut and had a pretty decent year, and Greene+Cassipi's spots (the "prospects" slot) are now likely filled by Taylor and Budinger (after Les shelled out some money). Not sure what you think, but I don't see it as an obvious downgrade talent-wise. Did the Rockets really "lose" anything significant out of that deal?
CH- It was worth it to me also. Getting to the 2nd round was awesome. But we still fell short of the trophy, and were still left as we are now. Donte Green and whatever we may have gotten may not turn out to be much, but we dont have anything to show other than our memories of the 2nd round, for the trade.
Rox got Trevor Ariza, a direct result of having had Ron - Ron. It was a deal we made which I am glad we made. (I had figured, worse case, an SnT; and, de facto, that is what effectively occurred.)
Donte is still looking like a project. The Sac writers have suggested his place there isn't secure. Who knows, maybe he comes back to Houston as trade filler?
I think the artest trade was a good trade at the right time. They got a young talent and we got a vet 3rd scorer. However, I don't think it was a big deal passing the 1st round. No matter what and I'm not saying the first rd wasn't good, I just hope the goal is bigger. This crawl before you walk doesn't apply. La went from 2 times 1 and done to back to back finals.
The Artest trade was a good one. Morey and Les have been hanging on by the skin of their teeth with Tracy and Yao and injuries, but adding Artest was a good gamble. Making it to the 2nd round, and pushing the hated and more talented Lakers to 7, was worth it. It would be nice to have those 1st round picks back---Morey does a good job drafting---but that's hindsight. How did Randy Travis sing it? "They say hindsight's 20/20, But I'm nearly going blind..." I do still think he's working on a major move. But given the current economic climate of the NBA, with the salary cap and luxury tax set to fall again in 2010-11, each move becomes that much more difficult. It's nice to not be in deep doo-doo in financial terms like many teams, and to have Tmax as an expiring, and to have players other teams might want to help us nab an All Star MAYBE, but it still doesn't make matters easy for Morey.
Any trade that doesn't LEAD somewhere is a waste. Ultimatly the Ron Artest trade was crap....2 1st round picks for a one year rental. Why do you think I wanted Artest traded as an expiring? DD
We were all but certain it was going to lead us to a championship - shame things didn't work out with Tracy and Yao, but that's with hindsight. heck, if it wasn't for Yao getting badly injured, he might have stuck around a bit more and we could have tried again with a hopefully recovered T-Mac. It didn't really work out, but 20-20 and we did get rid of the first round bugaboo
Now that he is gone, it looks like a waste, but at the time we thought we would be up there with the Lakers, Celtics, etc... A year ago, nobody knew that T-mac would have microfracture, Yao would miss the entire 09 season, I mean it made sense then, so it may be a waste looking at it now but these circumstance can happen to any team, unfortunently we have bad luck with injury prone stars...

I would have done that trade for Nash if we were still going to compete for a championship, but now we have time to develop young players....so with that said i would go with the Rubio trade, and let him develop, specially b/c Rockets staff seems really good at developing young talent.
