You really think it makes me mad that people are saying that I'm not a Rockets fan? For the last 12 years, I have tried to watch as many Rockets games as I can. I bet I've seen more Rockets games in the last 12 years than 80% of the people on here, at least. I would rather have the GSW backcourt than ours and I'm sticking to it. I can actually look at things objectively unlike you, a blind homer.
klay thompson gets a lot of love for a 16/3/2 guy with mediocre defense and without the skin complexion to draw the homers.
Not saying I agree or disagree with you, but just because somebody's opinion favors the Rockets over some other team, doesn't mean he's "a blind homer". It is a very realistic viewpoint to say that somebody would rather have the Rockets backcourt than the Warriors. It's hardly a one sided argument.
Superstars find ways to get to the free throw line. Curry and Klay do not. I think Steph averages less than 4 FTA per game. Just look at most of the stars now and of the past, they get to the free throw stripe at a high rate. It's a recipe for success and greatness.
The only thing sad is people thinking that a loss in the 2nd round against the Spurs means anything, when the compared backcourt lost in the 1st round. It seems evident that it is pointless arguing with complete homers. REEKO_HTOWN is the worst arguer on here. He's made 11 posts in this thread and 10 of them are two short sentences or less and are littered with ad hominems against me. He (and others) have spent more time trying to prove that I'm not a Rockets fan than talking about the subject at hand. Absolutely pitiful. I was expecting real debate in this thread but it has turned into a joke. From now on, I will only respond to REAL posts with REAL arguments, which essentially means none of REEKO_HTOWN's posts as well as a few other member's posts.
I would much rather have had GS backcourt in the playoffs. Lin was a net negative. Harden is the best player, not sure what TheRealist is smoking this time. Given their playoff performance, the Warriors backcourt was better than the Rockets backcourt this season. I think Lin will improve and the Rockets should be better next season.
Not in the stretch run. That means the team we have now and the team that beat GS consecutively are two different teams. We could definitely use a big. Sure but he was way lower than 100% this season. He played pretty well in the playoffs and who knows? Maybe he'll have his ankle injury overcome next season. I think you might have completely misunderstood my post. It was a response to someone else saying that we were 3-1 this season against GSW therefore we don't need Dwight. Barnes was pretty much a non-factor during the games in the regular season but in the playoffs he is showing promise he will be a very good player for a long time to come. Sure, but Jackson actually won a series and took a really good and relatively healthy Spurs team to the brink. Also, Jackson is better at D and the little things. Yes, we are also injured but OKC was injured too. Advancing is a confidence booster and they gained valuable experience. Still, he might make an impact. We were talking about long term rivalry here, no reason to count him out. I was talking about our season series with them, not literally the last game. I was saying post play is more important in the playoffs because another guy said, "since we beat them 3-1 in the regular season, we don't need Dwight." And I'm saying, in the playoffs it'd be nice to have a bigger post presence like Howard, would you disagree? I am not sure you know what's going on here.
The Golden State team is pretty much finished, they have experience to gain, but their 5 is pretty much as good as its going to get. Ours is very much a work in progress, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest for our starting 5 to be 3 people different by 2015/16. As for Barnes in the playoffs, I'm not sure much can be taken from it, considering that San Antonio were defending him with Parker, lol. If he can build on that great, but I've seen far too many players have a great playoff performance, and then get proclaimed greatness only to see them revert to normality to buy into anything solid from that. Of course, Barnes is young and was once touted a #1 draft pick, if he's finally "getting" what he didn't in college, the sky's the limit for him. And of course GS' mostly healthy back court was better than ours in the playoffs, our pg only had 1.5 healthy games.
it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest for our starting 5 to be 3 people different by 2015/16 Interesting comment. First, you mean our starting 4? Asik, Parsons, Harden, Lin? 3 people different? I imagine that's Asik, Parsons, Lin... gone. Am I assuming correctly? I have a different opinion. I think they will all be here the year after next (2015/16). I think the Rockets FO believe in this group and want to see them grow and bond as a team much in the same manner as OKC.
no, meant keeping Harden, Parsons. Asik could well be gone by next year for you know who. I expect we'll do what's necessary to keep Parsons, and while I don't think we'll actively go out there and seek to dump Lin, I also don't think we'll aggressively try to keep him, so it wouldn't surprise me if he was elsewhere.
Thanks for the clarification. I pretty much agree with your logic there. Only thing is, you're certain that Asik will be traded if you know who comes. I'm maybe only 85% with you on that one. I feel the Rocket's FO and coach are really big on Asik and might consider keeping him (+the trades to deal him for J.Smith might blow up the team more than they'd like).
Agreed. And not just the starters. We don't know what is going to happen with Delfino, Garcia and the bunch of PFs whereas they have pretty solid backups like Jack, Ezeli and Landry. We never know but I don't envision many changes on our team, I think/hope we could just sign one "you know who" and that's it. I do think that at least one of the young PFs will become a capable starter. Sure, we don't know but I really like his game. He can literally defend all five positions and create mismatches on O on all five positions. IMO if GS is to be good, he has to be their no.1 scorer or at least close to it. He didn't just score on Parker, he scored on everyone, overpowering the smalls and out-quicking the bigs, but of course, when Bruce "Lee" Bowen 2.0 was guarding him he couldn't do much, he's still a rookie afterall. Good observation! Here's hoping he will improve dramatically!
It might not happen immediately, but it's ultimately going to happen, $8.5m is a lot for a backup center, especially since once the playoffs come around, you'd want Dwight playing 36 mins, if not 38 mins+, it's a lot to invest in someone giving Dwight a breather. And then once his contract is up, he's going to get ~12m a year, which is way out of the range of sanity for a backup, so it'd be far more likely to move him before getting nothing. Someone being paid 3-4m I see as the peak of what we're willing to spend on a backup center.
Edit: forgot to type: I think the improvement on these three things would determine how good they will be: Barnes, health and Lee's defense.
