Carl's theory could be right but it could also be that he's dealing with personal issues that none of us know anything about. And those issues may get resolved and change his perspective on things. Or it could be something else entirely. It is a reasonable theory though. More reasonable than the Bosh one.
I couldn't disagree more. Coach A is doing what he loves. He'll probably have to be dragged kicking and screaming from the bench. I grew up around someone like that, although it was a different profession. He was still working from his hospital bed when he died. You'd be surprised how many people are like that. Some are lucky enough to have a job that is essentially their hobby, their love, that they would do for peanuts if they had no other alternative. I think Adelman fits that description.
I think the only scenario under which the Rockets would not try to bring Adelman back is if they decide to truly "start over" by letting Yao, Battier, maybe even AB go, try to trade Scola/Martin/Miller for younger/cheaper talent/picks, etc. If they are not going to be good any time soon, maybe it's time to invest in a younger coach who will more likely still be around when they get good (like Nate McMillan in Portland). Not that Adelman is gonna die or something, I'm just not sure he wants to go through "rebuilding" at his age when there are probably teams in better situations who would want his service.
I don't think so, CH. Didn't he stay at Portland until he was fired? In SacTown until he was fired? Doesn't his system take quite a while to get running, and to get players to fit it? I just don't see Adelman leaving the Rockets except for personal reasons, or he doesn't get a good extension. Pride would certainly cause him to split. Who could blame him if it did? He's done a hell of a job under incredibly tough circumstances.
I am thinking more about the Rockets leaving Adelman if they decide to rebuild rather than Adelman leaving the Rockets. Adelman is one of these guys-- Yao, Battier, AB, etc. working on the last year of their contracts without an extension. It seems the Rockets management are in the "wait and see" mode and will have to make a decision as to whether to stay the course or make a more substantial change.
Yeah, you never know with Les. I think it would be stupid not to retain Adelman with an extension, and I'd wager Morey wants him, but Les might do anything. I'm surprised he hasn't been re-upped yet. I can understand doing that with the players, but not with Adelman, who needs job security in part simply to retain his staff. In fact, I had forgotten he didn't have an extension. A surprisingly bad move by Morey and the organization, unless Rick's been promised one later, at or towards the end of the season.
I think JVG was having discussions on an extension well into the season (The story, as I remember was that JVG was offered an extension midseason, turned it down, and by the end of the season he got into a pissing match with Les over stupid **** like not publicly complaining about players and was not brought back). So, won't be suprised that if thing are going well, the team decides to make a committment midseason this year.
Adelman was more cheerful in the postgame interview today. Either the guys are improving, or he's just more polite around Chinese people

24 minute is from Daryl Morey. And I don't disagree with it at all..it's a llong season..yao is 7'6 ..not 7'0 ...i dont even see any 7+ footers logging 40 minutes per game like yao did. ANd Yao got injured a lot before the playoffs even started. you gotta be kidding me if u think odds are not against him gettin injured if he continues at the rate of 40 mpg like in the past. It's not like his efficiency was consistent with 40 mpg since we all could see his fatigue as the season wore on. With 24 mpg he's going to be more efficient with his stats and rockets are a deep team. Look at shaq when he was in miami, they won the championship and he didnt log optimal minutes during the season. And we all know shaq likes to play hurt til mid season every season when he comes back fresh. And even if yao is the core in every stat for rockets , it won't be good since he'll fatigue and heavy reliance on him in midseason will bite the rockets.
A few yrs ago, i mentioned how adelman isnt a big fan of morey. Adelman just wants the best players and create continuity vs asset manangement. He's a basketball coach and wants to get his team prepared for the season. He's not into pr tours and stuffed suits.
He is always that way. Ask the Maloof brothers and Sac Bee beat writers. I don't think it has anything to do with his tired of coaching the Rockets.
I can see how there may be a "culture clash" but: 1. I think this is an issue with many GMs and and coaches: Coaches look at the shorter term (How do I win tonight, or this season?) and GM have to look at the medium/longer term health of a franchise (Does getting player X, who may help us win this year, kill our cap figures 2 years from now?). The only coaches who seem not to complain about their GMs are the ones who essentially serve as the GM and have the final say on all personnel moves. 2. I don't think Adelman's current grumpiness has to do with Morey. Morey's offseason moves consist of (a) signing Brad Miller (whom, presumably, Adelman likes and was probably signed at Adelman's request) and (b) drafting Patrick Patterson. Not sure either one of them Adelman dislikes... and his complaints certainly don't relate to personnel moves. Maybe Adelman is secretly annoyed with the failed pursue of Bosh and Carmelo Anthony?
I also imagine he can't be too happy w/ Yao's limited minute order. That's a slap on his face b/c that sort of thing is coach's decision. He kinda implied it through the media several times.
