Agreed here. I think a lot of people here are more fine with it, because they think T-Will can be something .............. but given his attitude I don't think he can. And I'm sorry, Thabeet sucks, and a low first rounder alone isn't worth Battier. Boston can give us more than that, and at least Shane can go to a good team.
Im an NBA fan.... watched plenty of Memphis BBall. -He cannot defend without fouling. I understand you need someone in the middle to take up space, but if he cannot defend without fouling then it doesn't help the defense. -In Rick Adelman's offense it forces him to handle the ball and pass. He WILL NOT PLAY if Adelman is the coach. -Bad rebounder. Just doesn't have the knack for the ball, bad timing, etc. Sure than can improve somewhat, but its really bad now. Still, I do this deal if Im Morey personally depending on the draft pick. Its a tough call because the Rockets are still in the playoff hunt and Battier will be cruicial. Battier will move on at the end of this season by the choice of both parties, and you need to get something for him. The lux tax savings is the #1 reasoning, the draft pick is #2, and the gamble of taking on Thabeet is #3.
By $3,446,370 I was reffering to the amount of money the Rockets are over the tax. Wyn Douglas uses the same numbers Mark Deeds (Shamsports) does.
Morey overvalues Battier. Everybody knows this. To think Morey would consider a deal like Battier-for-Thabeet straight up goes against his line of thinking, IMO. After all, as others have already eluded to, Thabeet's rather large salary (relatively speaking) is likely considered dead weight at this point. And sure, we're willing to absorb salary, but not THAT kind of salary. At least that's the way I see it.
I have a feeling the Rockets are going to make a handful of moves to lower the salary this year and get under the luxury tax and that will be it.
I think your looking at Battier's value different then you need to be when considering this trade. In Morey's eyes- Battier = cruicial player they need if they want to make the playoffs Thabeet, pick, lux tax savings= giving up on season, future preparation -If he feels like they honestly have a good chance at making the playoffs then it become a very difficult decision to move Battier. -Very, very tough decision to make if you are Morey. More than likely this will be Les' call to make.
Mark stein just reported the Rockets are in talks to aquire Johnny Flynn from the TWolves.... dont know if this has anything to do with Battier or not...
Any chance to pry Gay away? The kid is blossoming the past few years and this year is shooting nearly 50% from the field and nearly 40% from 3 with above average defense. His contract gets pretty large over the next 3 seasons (19 mil in '14) and both Marc Gasol and Z-bo will be FA next season. Martin + Hill + Battier + Jeffries + Brooks + Twill + 1st rounder for Gay + Conley + Thabeet + Mayo This opens a little room for the Grizzlies to have cap space to sign with Z-bo and Marc, meanwhile getting a replacement for Gay and a scoring threat in Martin with a lesser salary than Gay. Along with 2 expirings and two great young players... This may seem like a lot but i believe this unit is way more rounder than the current Rockets team and for sure could make a big push next year, especially with the addition or maturation of a C. We get a more rounded PG, and let our young guys have a chance to play... Scola will be an asset we could use in a S&T for a big time center (Dwight anyone?) His lower salary could be very attractive to teams looking for a post scoring threat. Conley/ Lowry Mayo/ Lee Gay/ Bud Scola/ PPatt Hayes/ Thabeet and next year (possibly) Conley / Lowry Mayo / Lee Gay / Bud PPatt / Hayes Dwight / Thabeet I know its a pipe dream, but just an idea... I would for sure get season tickets to watch that squad play, the defense is outstanding.

Lovely........... Take your floor general/defensive pg out and your defensive wing and add another scorer at the point to go along with martin and Scola! Then post 50 rants about how bad our defense sucks!
Well said Clutch! And then it is PAINFUL to see people ON THIS BOARD continue to post "news" from this source. NOTE to all posters, there are AGGREGATORS out there that just re-package stories. STOP posting this stuff. Get it from the REAL source which generally is a local beat writer or a CNNSI/Y!/ESPN-type reporter.
I get what you're saying but I think it's a bit of a farce to think our playoff hopes cannot materialize without Shane in the picture. What I'm seeing is pure trade value vs. pure trade value. And i'm merely remarking that I think Morey overvalues Battier enough to consider this deal too lopsided (even with the pick + LT considerations). And to build on that a bit and address robbie's comment: I seriously doubt Morey's big move is to get Thabeet, a so-so draft pick and get under the LT all in one move and be done. In a league where the Bosh/Melo types find us unappealing, I think Morey's got something clever cooking to both: 1) Prove he's legit as an exec -and- 2) Add another key piece to both boost our appeal to the 2012 FA's (and, yes, make us better too). Plus, knowing DM, he'll probably find a way to do all this AND get under the LT again.
This deal is going down for sure, i have a 6th sense for things. I think it will be battier, brooks, hill and fillers for thabeet, mayo and fillers
Problem I have is that Battier, aswell as Chuck are the heart and glue of this team. Both can really help the young guys we will bring in for the rebuild.
lol then another 50 rants on how lowry cant shoot? STFU and <a href="http://photobucket.com/images/deal%20with%20it%20gifs" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x455/kellyboners/GIFs/dealwitit.gif" border="0" alt="crab deal with it Pictures, Images and Photos"/></a>
