Exactly. We trade for him and send him to the Vipers.

You have a point with the resigning of battier, but from my knowledge doesn't he love it in Houston? With that said. Thabeet needs a chance to grow and idk if adelman will play the guy. If we get him. I wanna see him play.

Simple... He wont. If they trade Battier they are obviously setting themselves up for the summer rebuilding project already. Like Clutch just said, he's about as useful as a 3 million dollar bag of sand for all we care. If he turns out to be a playable center after the summer then all the better, but the Rockets are not counting on that. They want the lux tax savings first and the pick second.

Why does everyone keep calling men "kids"? I am under the impression that and 18 year old male is considered a man in most countries of this world. Im sure if you run into Terrence Williams at night in a dark alley, you won't be calling him a kid.

No you dont. Trust me. He sucks. Hill is much more polished then Thabeet. Could be serviceable in the future... but thats a far far ways away if ever.

    Most definitely not serious :).

It's one of the great mysteries to me seeing even bigger sites quote Hoopsworld. Disaster after disaster... they take credible newspaper reports, tweak them, and then run those same stories as "sources confirm to Hoopsworld." Doesn't anyone remember when that "fake" Miami Herald report was posted to the web that Shaq (then with the Heat) was done for the year? 5-10 minutes later Hoopsworld claimed "sources" told them Shaq was done for the year (without mention of the "supposed" Miami Herald report)? When they learned the newspaper report was a fake, the Hoopsworld report disappeared. There have been many instances like that.

They exist, that's great, and maybe they're getting better... I don't know. But I roll my eyes anytime I see someone quote a report from Hoopsworld that is parroted from a bigger publication. I don't put any stock in it... doesn't belong alongside a Commercial-Appeal piece or a Yahoo! report.

Exactly. Which is why Woj is about the only one I believe. He isn't trying his best to be the first to break a story.

Even if Shane loves Houston i think we will lose him to free agency he will probably be looking for his last good contract and be on a team that will contend for a championship.

Sure he may not re-sign but best you can get for him is a pick and what so far has turned out to be a bust? As some have previously mentioned, maybe it is about the money and not so much what [player] we're getting back.

As far as coming in and being our best "shotblocker and one of our better rebounders", we'll see but might be hard to do that from the bench.

I am just stoked that he will be able to partake in our offseason workouts.

Get him in the weightroom, around a good group of guys, and see what happens.

Develop him into a solid, cheap, defensive backup C. He might be our 40 year old Mutombo esque backup If he can get a good attitude and a good understanding of his role.

We have enough scoring. All he has to do is be an anchor on defense for 15-20 minutes a game (Can't be worse than Hill or Brad Miller), and we have a good deal. He is certainly capable of reaching that potential, but he has to gain confidence. A culture change could be exactly what he needs. Memphis sucks...

these ppl who think courtney lee is more important or higher ceiling than mayo is crazy. mayo's offensive game and ability to finish is greater than anything courtney lee can contribute. 10 out of 10 times if we were offered mayo for lee, we'd pull the trigger. keep in mind that you have a pure scorer on a team with rudy gay, who needs the ball as well. remember tmac being in vince carter's shadow, or even something more recent, beasley being in wade's shadow? the reason why we don't get mayo is:

    1) grizzlies know what he's worth and want to get as much for him
    2) morey doesn't ever want to overpay

#2 is where we sit, all the time.

Morey is the type of person who wants 12 relatively good players and our argument that our 8-12 players are alot better than your 8-12 players.......it don't mean anything....especially when we don't play them alot. courtney lee is playing 10-20 minutes a game right now, that's far less than half and isn't starter minutes. you get mayo, and you have a 30 mpg starter. he is by far more talented than anyone else on our team.

if it were me, i'd trade battier, lee, and brooks for mayo and thabeet. that way, we develop our team as such.

    Mayo / Lowry
    Kevin Martin / C Bud
    Terrence Williams /
    Scola / Patrick Patterson
    Hayes / Thabeet / Hill

I like Terrence william on the floor cause he's a passer and mayo and kmart would benefit from that since they are shooters. scola is our interior scorer and well, we need defense in the middle.

this isn't the perfect team but i think it's a step in the right direction.

personally....if it were me? I'd trade Kmart for mayo and thabeet and a future pick. that way....memphis gets that scorer that can play along side rudy gay. we get someone that can maybe play interior defense. we get a scorer who can create their own shot and isn't under 6 feet and a completely liability on offense. I'd move battier to a winning team in the other conference for draft picks.

if i was truly in rebuild mode.

battier, scola, martin for mayo, thabeet, and randolph + 1st round pick

we pretty much get the same thing back on pf this year, and he's expiring.....yao is expiring...and jeffries is expiring.....we get two players on rookie salary, and another draft pick.

our entire payroll next year will be around 35 million and we have a complete roster

Depending on the nature of the pick, giving up Battier for 20 games for a 1st round pick seems like a pretty good deal, regardless of how Thabeet pans out.

Battier can sign with a contender next season, or resign with us or Memphis.

Still, hard to believe this was the best we could get for Shane.

    Dear Clutchfans,
Please don't try to sell me vinegar and tell me it tastes like Apple Juice. This is a horrible deal. A starter for someone who can't even get off the bench of a borderline 8th seed team? Lowry is better than Mayo from what I've seen. I am not one for making a deal just for the sake of making a deal.

This deal would make our team much worse in the immediate present and I would view it as a move to "tank" which is something Morey said he wouldn't do. Even after all this, I would still start Hayes at the 5 and so will Adelman. Now we have given up a starter and still will be screaming all off-season that Morey needs to find us a starting 5 and a starting 3 now!

As much as everyone thinks Battier is expendable:
    1. He is a legit NBA starter
    2. He is better at team offense and team defense than Bud
    3. He is better than T-Will

Both Hoopshype and ShamSports have Thabeet at $4.793M this season. That should be correct... fits right in the range of the rookie salary cap numbers of Michael Beasley (#2 pick in 2008) and Evan Turner (#2 pick in 2010).

Normally I'd ask you what the hell are you smoking for willing to do any of this but then again recent posters have led me to believe that I too value our "assets" more than even Morey does.

But since I've caught myself right before the trade deadline Im going to say you are a Genius because I too would go ahead and pull the trigger on this.

Sure hope being up all night pays off in the next few hours...
