If we acquire him, I hope you are right and he has just been squirrel holed in Memphis. And if he is going be developed, there is no better place than here. And if Morey can get Thabeet (at worst another back up big man that could replace Hill) and some other asset for Shane, then it's probably good value. But Shane has contributed and is still contributing to our success. He is not a net negative on this team. He's just not a big enough positive to get us over the top. One thought I had would be Minnesota. Wonder if they would flip Anthony Randolph and the rights to Rubio for Thabeet and a future first rounder?? Now, I would definitely be interested in that and that would be quite a haul for Shane's contract.
Not really optimistic with Thabeet, but I hope Deke and Hakeem can mentor this kid... Then, let's see what he can do.
I have to know what is the logic behind keeping shane, is he gonna help up make the playoffs this year, no, is he gonna be here next year, probably not, why not trade him for whatever we can get right now with potential.
He was the #2 pick, all we need him to do is defend and rebound, who are we gonna get in free agency thats worth not taking this risk here Nene, Denver Nuggets - $11.4 million – Early Termination Option ($11.6 million) Marc Gasol, Memphis Grizzlies - $3.6 million – Unrestricted* Tyson Chandler, Dallas Mavericks - $12.6 million – Unrestricted Yao Ming, Houston Rockets - $17.7 million - Unrestricted Kendrick Perkins, Boston Celtics - $4.9 million – Unrestricted Joel Przybilla, Portland Trail Blazers - $7.4 million – Unrestricted Samuel Dalembert, Sacramento Kings – $13.4 million - Unrestricted Greg Oden, Portland Trail Blazers - $6.8 million – Restricted ($8.8 million Qualifying Offer) Spencer Hawes, Philadelphia 76ers - $3.0 million – Restricted ($4.1 million Qualifying Offer) Nenad Krstic, Oklahoma City Thunder - $5.7 million – Unrestricted Earl Barron, Phoenix Suns - $0.8 million - Unrestricted Tony Battie, Philadelphia 76ers - $1.4 million – Unrestricted Kyrylo Fesenko, Utah Jazz - $1.1 million - Unrestricted Erick Dampier, Miami HEAT - $1.1 million - Unrestricted Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Miami HEAT - $1.4 million - Unrestricted Jeff Foster, Indiana Pacers - $6.7 million - Unrestricted Nazr Mohammed, Charlotte Bobcats - $6.9 million – Unrestricted DeAndre Jordan, L.A. I would be shocked if Morey traded Shane straight up for Thabeet. Agree that if they added a 1st round pick I would pull the trigger. Thabeet is going to need a ton of work with Dawson and Dream, but he has the size and athletism to be a true rim protector in the future. But right now he is a foul machine. If rockets get Thabeet and somehow pry away Asik from Chicago, then I see them in total rebuilding mode and this will be Adelmans last season as head coach. Size matters in this league.
I was just looking at Thabeet's statistical numbers... He only averages 11.1 MPG... With many DNP's... This is similar to J. Hill while he was in NY. You cannot develop unless you play (in case some of you didnt know {sarcasm}). Me, I dont think Thabeet is the next Hakeem or anything but he is 7'3" with really good athletic ability and body control. He CAN block shots and is a nice defender. With Sikma and CD around, he has the best big man coaches around to help develop an offensive game. I take a shot on him. Battier, while I really like the guy, he is a solid citizen and has been a hard worker but it isnt like we are betting the farm.
I agree and there really not much Memphis can offer in my opinion. Mayo? Not a big fan and we already have Martin and Lee. Draft picks? Memphis traded their 2011 1st rounder to Minnesota, so the next pick they'd be able to trade would be their 2013 first rounder at the very earliest (the pick they send to MIN is lottery protcted, so it would have to be the 'first allowable' draft pick) Now that pick might actually more valueable than their 2011 first rounder (mainly because this years draftclass is pretty bad), but it could turn out just like NY picks. Is that worth Thabeet occurring capspace in 2012? I think not. Just my opinon though.
Thabeet's still young and worth a risk. I still favor a reasonable deal to net Mayo. How did Thabeet do in the D League?

Hill is a serviceable player but we have about 100 PF's... And he doesnt play consistenyly. To answer your question he is considerably better than he was when he got here. That cant be denied.
