If we offer market value it is fake. If we offer him a boatload of money, it is stupid. And you nuts would have been on here critical of that...
So is that it? After the Hawks match, Smith is officially a Hawk or can another team offer him even more?
There are TWO WAYS to sign a RFA that is wanted by his current team: Offer him a bomb of a contract or negotiate a sign-and-trade. Otherwise it is a complete waste of time. Everybody knows that. If you disagree, it's your right to be wrong. If the Grizzlies had made a serious offer (whether I agreed with it or not), I would have respected their integrity for doing so. As it stands, the Grizz remain a disgraceful joke of an organization with very little interest in fielding a competitive team. They need to be sold and moved ASAP. Clay Bennett bought the wrong team.
LMAO....you are the joke. The team is rebuilding. Just because it hasn't happened at the speed of light means nothing. I mean it could be worse. We could have everything handed to us and still unable to get out of the first round. Can't wait to see the new rxcuses next spring...
I don't think that Josh Smith is worth more than 10 M a year max, however if the Grizzlies really wanted him badly, they could have gone beyond the offer that they made. If they get a better player next year with their cap money they will be lucky,if not then it won't be good for them.
That offer by your team was weak. It was a half-hearted attempt. The grizzlies may be in the rut because of ownership but there's no way they don't know that to steal a RFA you must overpay (make it hard for the player's home team to match) or do a sign and trade. If they don't know this, then wow, your franchise is in worse shape than I thought.
As you mean it, they won't be "lucky" and don't want to be. What their owner really wants is the lowest payroll he can get away with and to dupe Grizzlies fans into thinking it's a sincere "rebuilding" effort. The Kool-Aid tastes good in Memphis. MemphisX, defend Michael Heisley all you want. It's good for your own peace of mind that you've bought into his load of garbage.
Neither is Memphis. You mean kinda like Memphis handed LA Pau Gasol? Seriously MemphisX, your comment has to be one of the dumbest things I've heard on this board. You really have no room to be opening your mouth about getting out of the first round. The Grizzlies own the longest losing streak in the playoffs with 12 losses or three consecutive years in which the Grizzlies have not won a playoff series or even a single game, and they have remained winless in the playoffs during their 13 year history. Then despite their last place finish in 2007, the Grizzlies, who held the best chance of landing the first pick in a draft, ended up with the fourth pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. I think the futility and and poor management of the Grizzlies is starting to get to you.
Is someone seriously defending Heisley? Really?? I guess I should read the whole thread. I find that difficult to believe!
Considering production, upside and age I would put Smith at least equal to Manu and Boozer. The others are unquestionably max salary players, so I would say yes Smith isn't at that level. But you won't find many guys younger than 23 years old in the NBA who had any better year than Josh Smith.
Stop being an ass Dei, unness. But no, I don't think Memphis made that much of an effort to sign Smith. This was not a market contract, certainly not one that would make a matching team think twice. I don't think Smith would have taken this little with Atl. We wouldn't have settled for 1 less year if not more per year on top to sign outright with Atl. Like I said I almost think it was a gentelmans agreement between Atl and Mem. Memphis gets to look like they are doing something, and Atl gets to show it "values" Smith while getting him cheaper than market (again, consider the total amounts with contracts to Biedrens, Ellis, Deng, Brand, etc, etc). The only think that would have made Atl really think twice would have been a Joe Johnson type deal offer by Memphis, full max with front loaded $.
"Rebuilding", lol. Rebuilding would be actually getting something back for the best player in your franchise's history, who still happened to be in his prime when dealt. I guess it's fair to make comparisons since we both played out last year without our best players. We won 55 games. You guys flat out sucked. Ours went down with injury. You guys handed yours away. Yea, I think it's safe to say we have a little bit more to be optimistic about.
Yeah so after 3 years with Yao and T Mac, you only have 1st round flameouts to show for it. Congrats. Houston hasn't done anything significant since Memphis has been in the NBA. Anything else is meaningless towards the comparison.
GTFO? Why don't you at least contribute to the cause? I have been on this board longer than you and unlike you I at least contributed something toward the bandwith I am using.
what cause? the cause to read your b****ing about how bad your team sucks and proclaiming the Houston Rockets as a failure? g.t.f.o.
