I meant it more as A3PO saw it, more its about fan perception of their team. Some teams are happy with making the playoffs, this is particularly common amongst teams without much success (esp the newer franchises like the grizzlies).

In a way I can understand it, owner issues aside, you're never going to go from crap to first unless you're Boston or LA, you need a period of moderate success to generate a winning culture

Ahhh, Kevin Durant. Rudy Gay has better stats across the board. Rudy is a better fg % from both 2s and 3s, he has a better block percentage, better steals percentage, more game winning shots. The difference? Durant gets hyped beyond belief.

I'll give you the fact that Durant's team has a better record, and that may be all you need to form your opinion. But I doubt seriously that Durant and Company want to see the grizzlies in the playoffs.

I think that rudy, if there is a knock on the guy, it is that he gets bored in the regular day to day games, so he is not as driven as durant, but nobody want to face Rudy Gay in a big game that means something.

The difference is about 8 ppg

    8 ppg is a lot.

Durant is a scorer, perhaps the best scorer in a long time, Westbrook handles the ball most of the time.

The game winning shots is pretty meh, Oklahoma wins a lot of a games without the need for game winning shots.

He takes almost 4 more shots than Rudy does, but Rudy gets it done when the game counts. It's proven.

Don't listen to me, I'm just a "depressed Rockets fan, quite frankly".

Of course, because he said it instead of me, it is not "ridiculous generalization".

In regards to the topic, IMO a contract that pays randolph in excess of 11-13 million is an overpay. Ideally the number should be 4 yr 48mill or something similar. While randolph has been very very good during his tenure in Memphis, he still a terrible defender, havent lead seen the playoffs since portland, is turning 30 in a couple months and has a history of terrible behavior as well as performance, as evident by his last year in portland, his clipper experience and of course his NY tenure.

Memphis may be a young improving and may even develop into a consistent playoff team, but Randolph is no longer young nor developing, but rather aging and may even soon be declining. Instead of committing tons of money (anything above 13mill/50mill) to Randolph, perhaps they should invest in the younger, bigger and more well rounded Gasol.

I think randolph is a good player, better than scola, david lee, david west, paul milsap, brand, hickson, landry etc but clearly not on the level of pfs like dirk, gasol, garnett, bosh, stoudamire, aldridge, boozer and griffin...

Of course the nba being a business, I expect the grizzlies to almost NEED to resign him, as hes been a popular player as well as their best player.

If you honestly believe Rudy Gay is equal to or better than Kevin Durant, I'll make another "generalization": You are delusional.

    Just wow!

Rudy Gay is better than Kevin Durant.

    .............................................................................................................

I mean, really? REALLY? How about Gay make an All-Star game? How about Gay BE CONSIDERED for the All-Star game by people outside of Memphis., something even Kevin Martin accomplished?

I mean, I think I'll go ahead and ask this question. Do you think Gay is a top 10 player in this league?

I wish that we could get him for that price. But the grizzlies fans on our board are conceding the fact that he will be in the 15 million per year range. We are looking at 4 years 60 to 64 million.

Yao made the all-star game, injured. Really?

    Besides,
The grizzlies are deeper team than the thunder. The Thunder's whole offense is Durant and Westbrook. The grizzlies aren't built that way. We have Gasol that can score, Randolph, Conley & Mayo.

I believe that Gay is certainly equal to any player in the league in terms of talent, except maybe Kobe and Lebron. Especially considering that he is 24 years old and 5 years in the league.

Their cap situation in a year is going to be gross. They are spending all this money and their team isn't that exciting or good. Heck, they would have to pay me to go to with on their games.

Best of luck to them if they give sizable extensions to both Randolph and Gasol.

Unlike most here, I'm not wild about Gasol. Z-Bo has earned whatever he'll get but Gasol regressed a bit this year. That's worrisome for a player in a contract year.

The Grizz have to keep Z-Bo if they want to compete for a playoff spot every year , the guy is more proven and legit than Marc Gasol.

That is the problem. If they keep this roster intact, competing for a playoff spot is the best they will ever do. Z-Bo is not getting any younger.

Memphis motto should be B.M.F. (Blowin Money Fast for you pascal folks)...Randolph isnt someone to build a championship team around...They may win 50 games best a season but nowhere near championship level

Read what I wrote. I didn't just say "Make the All-Star game". I said " Get considered for the All-Star game." There were tons of players in the West who didn't make it but were discussed as possibly making it. Aldridge. Zach Randolph. Martin. Scola. Millsap. Ellis. Nash. Gordon. Those were people being discussed.

Not Rudy Gay. And if he couldn't even get in that conversation, claiming he's better than a top 5 player in this league is just hilarious.

And in terms of talent, Terrence Williams is probably the best player on the Houston Rockets. Just making that observation.

The Grizzlies have some good players, but they lack a real superstar and no one on their roster is likely to develop into one. Gay is one dimensional. Randolph is 30 years old and Gasol has physical limitations.

They look an aweful lot like any number of other teams that win 40-50 games a year and get bounced in the first round.
