You can get a gas grill with a place for wood chips. The grill will smoke the chips while it cooks your food.

charcoal all the way, especially lump charcoal and not the brisquettes. still, brisquettes are ten times better than gas. part of great grilled food is the preparation. so, quit being a pansy about how much work it takes for charcoal.

haven't we had this debate many times before? anywho, as CaseyH says, you can put wood chips in a gas grill to get smoke flavor. gas is just sooo much easier. i have a natural gas line running up from my basement so i never need to change the tank---> super convenient. when upstate or vermont, i use charcoal and hardwoods. when i have time, i love, heart, <3 to sit around, drink beer, and smoke meat (i know Swoly, that's what she said)--> all day long.

Use a lidless soup/veggie can. Take label off, put chips in, set on grill.

Coal for taste, gas for speed. Get a dual setup so you can have both.

Don't have time for charcoal after work when I want to grill up some turkey burgers or some steaks. Propane works better in this instance.

I have a charcoal grill and an electric one. If I have the time, I use charcoal, because love of the flavor must be in my DNA, but if I'm pressed for time, the electric grill is quick and easy. No, things don't taste as good as charcoal, but they taste as good as gas, in my opinion. I quit using gas after my back got so bad that messin' with the propane tank was literally a pain. Gave the grill away after that.

What's all this talk about convenience? If you want convenience, use a griddle or a Foreman or something...

Grilling's like fishing - it's not about how fast and easy you can crank 'em out; it's a pastime, it's an affair, an art almost.

Gas takes out all the flavor and half the fun.

don't be a simpleton, there are many ways to fish. fly fishing, fresh versus saltwater, deep-sea, etc. when grilling, we are talking about cooking with fire son, gas grilling is an advancement in technology (kinda like the iPhone4 LOL). don't be a luddite, fish with a laser gun.

Lights better, better taste, burns hotter and lasts longer.

It is cheaper than the bag u posted so give it a shot. I think about 6 bucks for 10 pounds. Make sure it is the USA made royal Oak though, the other stuff is not up to par.

I just soak the chips in water and throw them on the grill with the meat.

I have a gas grill...but I put charcoal in the grill and use the gas to light up the charcoal - turn the gas on real low...and I get the flavor of the coal and the convenience of gas.

Grill... It's too hard to control a charcoal fire.

I use charcoal. I have a weber performer, which uses propane to light up the coals. No need to use lighter fluid which adds a funny taste for the food. I am planning on buying a gas grill for certain foods (veggies and fruits). Nest year, I will be getting a green egg for smoking meats. I try not to smoke in my charcoal grill because it leaves a film on it which makes it hard to clean.

Edit: my performer goes from cold to hot in less than 15 minutes. Shortening the time by at least 15 minutes compared to conventional charcoal grills.

I've always used charcoal. Not because i prefer it but because im scared to grill with propane.

I feel like i will blow myself up.
