There is a place in Atlanta Paging BamaSlammer called the Varsity. It is nearly a carbon copy of James Coney Island. My Dad went to Georgia Tech in the late 40s/early 50s. He thinks JCI is disgusting, but waxes nostalgic poetry about how great the Varsity is. I've eaten at both, and there is no difference. Last time I was in Atlanta on business I got him a Varsity TShirt. He was so happy he acted like I bought him a gold lined leather jacket.
by the way, RM95...sure we've been to Live a couple of times together since you moved back...and of course, we took in a Texans game together. but the real holy grail....the true experience of friendly conversation over chili dogs...that, my friend, we have not yet done. we must. carry on. a close friend of mine met dusty baker last night at Live Sports Cafe by the way!!! talked to him for a little while.
sounds good. yeah...i called my friend afterwards and left a message on his voicemail saying, "this is roger clemens...i'm very disappointed in what i've just learned about your fraternizing with the enemy." of course, he's from colorado, so he's a marginal astros fan at best. but he said dusty was nice. my friend was there with an old high school friend who plays catcher from Memphis and was in town last night...that guy's coach knows dusty well, so they all met there.
This may be anathema to many here, but in the nearly four years that I lived in Houston, I think I ate at JCI exactly once. Der Weinerschnitzel is the way to go!!
Nope. I talk about it a lot, but haven't made it over there. Neither RM95's Girl nor my roommate have ever been, so it's on our list! Good stuff.
As much as you seem to hang w/ RMT, Buck, and MM, I'm surprised they haven't dragged you there yet! A visit to Frenchy's should be part of a Houston welcome package.
I'll take ya, but only if we get to go at 3AM on a Saturday night. Hey, I need my entertainment just like anyone else!
