thacabbage, you hit it right on the head about Cuttino. Cuttino has a very low basketball IQ and I don't think he will ever have the smarts to reach a status of a star-caliber player. The Mobley defenders really have no sound argument for Cuttino. Yes Cuttino puts up some pretty good numbers from time to time, but he's not a winner, and I don't ever believe the Rockets will go anywhere with Cuttino being one of the leaders on this team. He can be a hell of a role player but nothing more.

    he's not a winner

If Cuttino Mobley's not a winner, I'm not sure if there is one in the NBA.

He'll be the first to tell you. I think Cuttino is very stats driven. He's the master of the 15 point quarter against Chicago when we are already up 30.

I realize this and Cuttino Mobley should be commended. Few players have more heart and desire in the league. However, would it not be easier on his broken down body to make the extra pass rather than drive into a sea of defenders?

I understand your point. However, whether you are the league MVP or Jason Collier, it is to the advantage of your team for you to pass out of a double team. That is smart basketball. This is completely independent of a player's role on a team.

It's a little something called "playing within your limitations." You can believe you are as good as you want but you have to realize when there are certain things that you are physically incapable of doing at an efficient rate. Stop fading away on every single damn jumper. You do not have the lift or height of Kobe Bryant. Stop trying to reach through double teams and score in traffic. You do not have the length or leaping explosiveness of Tracy McGrady. You are Cuttino Mobley - a damn good 2-guard with the quickest first step in Texas and a pretty good set 3-point shot. Enough of this "stare my man down for 5 seconds, dribble through a double and fade away while glaring towards the camera" unproductive BS. ISO your man and if the double team comes, move the ball, if it doesn't, blow past the SOB and lay it in. Simple concept. Simple, smart basketball.

Well we did win 45 games in the west last year with him being one of the leaders on the team. He at one point was averaging around 10 pts in the 4th quarter alone and it's probably no coincidence that at one point we were something like 28-4 in games we led going into the 4th quarter. Cuttino the loser must have had at least a little to do with it.

He's the master of the 15 point quarter against Chicago when we are already up 30

Please tell me you're kidding. I mean in the last 3 years how many games have we ever had any kind of super comfortable lead at any point in a game and in exactly how many of those games did mobley put up 15 in a quarter. I mean really how often does Cuttino ever play in a garbage time situation.

Mobley's record in the NBA is 122-130, not counting the playoffs...a 1-3 loss to the Lakers his rookie season. Without doing the research, I'm betting that there are many players in the NBA with a better winning % in their careers than Cuttino Mobley.

Great to see you posting thaCabbage. You used to be a posting monster.

Might as well just stop trying to reason about Mobleys flaws. I think I originated the "Mobley just isnt smart enough" tirads long ago. Maybe even years ago. It wont change anything. I shelved it with the "Collier will never make it", and the "Mirsad Turkan, Bryce Drew" what are you thinking arguments long ago.

But always good to see you post.

Now where have all the old school gone?

    Heres an old school argument

It doesn't surprise me that someone brought up that awesome season last year.

Actually, compared to this season, it was an awesome season for the Rockets last year. Granted, the Rockets did win their fair amount of games last year, but the bottom line is it wasn't good enough out here in the West to get into the playoffs. The playoffs are what matter. Bottom line is the Rockets are about to be a lottery team, AGAIN. Cuttino just doesn't have what it takes to be one of the leaders for a playoff team.

Cuttino Mobley must be about the most talented player ever to have played basktball. To shoot 50% from the field, 60% from beyond the arc, and 100% from the line, plus three assists, a couple of boards, and a steal and have that be considered such a horrible performance that it lost the game for his team, I don't see any other possible explanation. Maybe it is because he let all-star guard Vince Carter get a little above his average. Maybe he can bounce back next game and shoot >60% from the field and >70% from beyond the arc. Maybe he can shut down Paul Pierce in addition to his offensive attack. I just wish that all of his talent would not be tossed aside in such crappy performances as this.

I do not know why people are getting so defensive. Despite all the positives about Mobes, it is a fact that he has some growing up to do, since he continues to show those boneheads plays and quite frankly at inopportune times. This is not the playground, every possession counts. Bottomline: if Mobley had the discipline of a John Stockton and played for a coach like Sloan, who requires discipline, then he would be unstoppable in this league and on his way to the all-star game. Nobody is doubting his talent and in fact everybody loves him. We just would prefer him to be sweet rather that being sweet and sour.

I can't wait until Griffin punches Moochie "the little dribbler" for not passing him the ball in the final minutes when he is open at the three point line...
