I'm also pretty amazed and happy that Griffin made the 2nd team...he did have a sub-par second half and it still proves the league wrong for not picking him for the All-Rookie game.. Good first year Eddie..time to work on your post game!
I was disappointed, no doubt. I think I had my hopes up too high about what Griff would be able to do in his first season. I truly don't believe he was utilized properly, but even still...I can't wait to watch this guy develop. I'm REALLY hoping it works out!!
did griffin have the greatest year ever, no. but i saw pretty much all i needed to see to know he will always be good at defense and all i wanted to see to know there is at least something to base an offensive game around. i mean i don't want him shooting 3's all the time, but if only being a 3 point shooter is all he ever learns, there have been worse things. as for defense, he's the most friggin natural shotblocker i have ever seen. realize i was too young for hakeem's glory blocking days and even when i started watching bball during his mvp caliber years i was like 12 or 13 and wasn't good at noticing things like natural shotblocking ability so i don't know how griff ranks in comparison to hakeem's natural abilities. all i know is that he almost seems to set up offensive players sometimes and then just effortlessly blocks them. he was good for about 2 a game when he actually got decent playing time and i expect when he's a solid 35 minute a night guy that he will be blocking 2.5-3 a game consistently. and he was usually good for around 10 boards when he got PT. so if nothing, i see him as a 10 reb, 2.5 block guy and even with just his current offense he could get 12-13 a game. whether he blossoms into a 20 ppg guy remains to be seen but there's certainly nothing that says he can't. and i think the rookie 2nd team was right where he belonged for his production.
Basically, it's all political so too say. Parker plays for a more visible team ~ Spurs, who have Big Tim Duncan and David Robinson. The Pacers? They have young kids and Reggie Miller. Duncan these days is more prime time = tv games = more tv time for Parker. Therefore he got more votes than Jamaal Tinsley, who in my eyes except for the late season slowdown (rookie wall) put up more stats for his team.
